We are looking forward to welcoming you to the upcoming Joint Advanced Seminar I for the third cohort of CARTA PhD Fellows in Population and Public Health. The Seminar will run from March 4 to 27, 2012 at the Giraffe Ocean View Hotel in Dar es Salaam and at the Tanzanian Training Centre for International
Health (TTCIH) located in Ifakara, Kilombero District, Tanzania.
Visas & refunds
Participants may be required to obtain visas to enter Tanzania. For this and any airport
transport expenses incurred, please bring original receipts for reimbursement.
Yellow fever
Please confirm the status of your yellow fever vaccination before you travel. It is advisable that you have your vaccination done at least 2 weeks before you travel – please ensure that you carry your vaccination card with you. There will be no reimbursement for any fees paid.
Arrival in Dar es Salaam
On arrival at the Julius Nyerere International Airport, look out for a board with your name on it as you leave the baggage claim area. The driver will take you to the Hotel.

For the duration of the meeting, CARTA will cover the costs of your accommodation, breakfast and lunch. A modest per diem of $30 on weekdays and $50 on weekends will be provided to cover your dinner and incidentals. You will be responsible for any other bills you incur e.g. telephone calls, laundry, bar, etc.,
which will need to be settled at the time you are checking out.
Meeting rooms
The meeting room(s) shall be listed on the Hotel notice boards. Feel free to ask Hotel staff for directions to the room(s). We will keep you informed in case of change of venue for some meetings. Information on the trip to Ifakara Demographic Surveillance Site in Kilombero District, Morogoro region will be shared closer to the trip date.
Weather
It is hot and humid in Dar es Salaam with average temps of 24 - 31oC. It is advisable to carry an umbrella since March is the beginning of the long rains.
