Genesis
Following the faculty and administrators workshop held in January/February 2012, a team of librarians within the CARTA institutions formed the Consortium of CARTA Librarians (CCL) Network, an inter-regional collaboration among libraries in the universities participating in CARTA. The group is led by Obasola O.I, of the Medical Library, College of Medicine, University of Ibadan and coordinated from the CARTA Secretariat
Objective
The proposed Consortium of CARTA Libraries is a unique opportunity to put Africa on the global research network. It will be arguably the first inter-regional collaboration amongst libraries in Africa. It would take-off with the eleven CARTA Partner Institutions- comprising of 9 Universities and 2 research Institutes. The possibilities of other institutions joining in the future would also be explored. As discussed at the workshop in Dar salaam, CCL would compile, digitize (where necessary) and upload to a central server, with support from CARTA, for the purpose of sharing knowledge and findings from research in the African region. Essentially CCL shall be an e-library of academic publications for undergraduate, graduate and post graduate thesis.
