Procedure to apply for an external advisor
The Northern Partner institutions have the facility to provide expertise to both fellows and supervisors. Experienced academics in these institutions have offered their services and can advise on a variety of areas, from specialist forms of data analysis to provide an opinion about a draft chapter or area of discussion.
CARTA fellows are encouraged to discuss this option with their supervisors and if the supervisor considers that an external viewpoint would be helpful then the procedure to apply for an advisor is as follows:
The application form known as Request for an external advisor is downloaded from https://sites.google.com/a/cartafrica.org/carta-downloads/ and completed.
The applicant, in discussion with the Supervisor, explains in a maximum of 500 words the type of assistance sought and the anticipated benefits. The form is signed by the Supervisor.
The form is submitted to the CARTA secretariat carta@aphrc.org .
CARTA secretariat sends the form to Collaboration Coordinator CARTA at emma.bergstedt@sahlgrenska.gu.se
The Collaboration Coordinator CARTA reviews the request and selects a potential advisor from the database of academics who have volunteered their expertise.
The Collaboration Coordinator CARTA contacts the potential advisor, appending the Fellow’s application form.
Once the advisor has agreed to provide the requested support then contact details are exchanged.
At the end of the period of contract, Advisor, Fellow and Supervisor are asked to provide feedback about the experience.
All correspondence between the Fellow and Advisor is copied to the Supervisor and to the secretariat carta@aphrc.org
