CARTA is now firmly on course to achieve its mission of building a critical mass of high-quality PhD holders trained in Africa to address Africa’s health and development challenges. This document outlines CARTA’s policy on graduation and related milestones for its fellows. The specific objectives of the policy are to:
1. Clarify the duration of financial support to fellows
2. Outline CARTA’s stance on ‘graduation’ and ‘on-time graduation’
3. Inform decisions on rewards for CARTA fellows’ supervisors
4. Elucidate the conditions that qualify fellows for CARTA’s post-graduation offerings (re-entry grants, postdoctoral placement, graduate seminars etc.)
