A new program is launching this month to recognize elementary schools building robust Computer Science programs for their students. Principals can apply through the Computer Science Website, and successful buildings will receive banners for their schools. Watch for these banners when you visit our elementary schools!
December 3rd-7th is Hour of Code week! This year the theme is creativity, and we would like to see participation from as many students as possible, from every grade level. To take part or find out more about this international event - go to the Hour of Code website for online and offline activities for students, answers to frequently-asked questions, and a participant registration form.
Hour of Code encourages students to take their first steps with Computer Science or celebrate their existing skills through a variety of fun, engaging activities. This year, help the Grinch steal Christmas, build a Star Wars galaxy, or immerse in the world of Minecraft -- all through coding!
Tired of the annoying ads appearing on websites used for instruction? What about when you show YouTube videos in class? Here are two free Chrome extensions that will help block anything you don't want to see.
AdBlock is automatically installed on elementary student Google accounts.
AdBlock will remove ads automatically from websites. If you see an ad, report it to AdBlock and they will remove it in the future.
Adblock for YouTube removes ads from YouTube videos. Ads before videos, during videos, or even in the "Up Next" sidebar will be gone.
Looking for more high-engagement practice activities for students with study sets? Quizlet may be an option for you.
Check out the following introductory videos about Quizlet and Quizlet Live, a game within Quizlet that promotes collaboration and student discussion while reviewing material.
Export grades from Google Classroom directly in to a CSV Spreadsheet or into a Google Spreadsheet. Follow these steps for exporting your grades in the new Google Classroom:
In any Google Classroom, choose the "Classwork" tab at the top of the screen.
2. Click on any assignment and click "View Assignment".
3. Click on the gearwheel in the upper-right corner.
4. Choose how you would like to copy or download grades.

Can't remember how to get into the different curriculum resources available to you? Click on the button below to check out the new Online Login Resource Document that lives under the Tools drop-down menu on the Instructional Technology webpage. It is organized by subject and grade band to support all students and teachers with online resources.
(ASD Google Account login required to view)On November 30th there will be a small change to how passwords are entered into Skyward. From that date forward, all passwords will be case sensitive (meaning that it will distinguish between upper and lowercase characters).
If you are used to entering your password in all caps or lowercase, you may need to adjust your practice. If you cannot remember whether your password contained upper/lowercase characters, you can use the "Forgot your Login/Password?" link to create a new one.
Last year, when Auburn High and other locations were attacked by malware, several staff members had their emails taken over and/or had personal bank account information stolen because their passwords were saved in their Internet browsers. The Department of Technology recommends that ASD staff members NEVER save passwords within a browser.
Instead, connect work related resources, if possible, to your ASD Google or Clever accounts. This decreases the number of usernames and passwords you need to create and remember!
Use these links to remove or manage saved passwords in Chrome browser, Internet Explorer, and Edge browser.
ASD is in Year Two of our Actively Learn pilot. Here's a shout out to all our amazing participating teachers and the hard work they are putting in to test out and bring quality tools and instructional practices to their students!
