The Equity and Family Engagement Department has a new website that is now live. On it, you can find a cultural calendar of events throughout the year, and resources that you can bring into your classroom to recognize these important events. Check it out at the link below:
If you are a staff member leaving ASD, it is important to note that your ASD account will be deactivated seven days after your contract ends. This means you will lose access to all of your ASD accounts (i.e. Email, Google Drive, Canva, etc) and the files stored within them.
For information on how to keep or transfer your files, as well as what needs to be returned to the district, visit our Leaving the District Page.
If you have questions or need additional support, your BTC, TSS, Tech Coach, or Helpdesk are all available to help.
Are you traveling outside of the USA (including Puerto Rico, Guam, US Virgin Islands, etc.) over the summer and would like access to your email and Google Drive? To protect staff and student data, we currently do not allow access to our Microsoft or Google accounts from outside the country. This is due to hacking attempts that have come from foreign countries. We can, however, make exceptions for known staff for a specific window of time.
If you would like this enabled, please complete this form no later than five working days before you travel:
If you have an issue with your printer, look for a Pacific Office Automation sticker somewhere on the device. This will give you a phone number to call and the ID# of the printer to initiate a repair or part replacement. This includes:
Replacing toner
Replacing toner waste container
Mechanical malfunctions with the printer
You can also email for printer supplies or printer service and be sure to include the ID#.
Replacement paper is purchased by your building. Please reach out to your BTC/TSS (or put in a helpdesk ticket) if you need further assistance.

With AI becoming ever more present in our life and now in school, how can students trust that what they are reading/seeing/hearing is truthful?
The video opposite presents some great tips for students, with a multilingual lens (although the strategies are applicable to all learners) -- it's well worth two minutes of your time to help build your AI literacy,
Flip is going away! While some of its features will be integrated into Microsoft Teams for Education, the website and mobile apps will be fully disabled on September 30th 2024, and you have until then to access and download any Flip videos. Additionally, the website will be in "view-only" mode starting July 1, 2024, so you won't be able to create any new assignments.
We are sad to see Flip go away as we know many of you were using it to amplify student voice and provide different modes of engagement for learners. While there are currently no apps that function exactly like Flip, here are some alternatives for providing opportunities for students to increase student voice and choice:
Padlet has an option for students to share by creating a video recording.
SeeSaw allows students to respond to assignments in different modalities, including video. PK-2nd grade teachers already have access to the paid-version!
Canva and WeVideo also have video recording & editing capabilities.
Reach out to your Tech Coach for support in incorporating these tools into your instruction!
Check out our new communication tool beginning fall 2024: ParentSquare! This is a robust communication tool that office staff, classroom teachers, and specialists can all use to communicate with families! This resource allows you to post updates to a feed, send individual or group messages, have a class calendar, create sign ups, and more! Get crafty and create classroom newsletters within the program, as well as posting pictures and videos for families to enjoy. While change can be hard, I think this is going to be welcome change to both staff and families alike.
If you want to start learning more about the amazing features ParentSquare has to offer, you can go through this training document, which can provide a more focused overview for how ParentSquare can help you best.

NB: In addition to family communication, ParentSquare will also be used for district and staff communication, replacing SchoolMessenger.
Securly Classroom allows you to create block lists. These lists can be shared with others and customized to your specific needs. You can filter sites out by using the full URL or by custom keywords.

If you're like me and always on the lookout for ways to make those read aloud sessions more engaging and interactive, you've got to check out Novel Effect. It's become a staple in my classroom routine. The app is a $49.99 1-year subscription. While it doesn't have every book in its library, the collection is continually expanding with new additions all the time. The beauty of Novel Effect lies in its simplicity - just fire up the app, choose a book from the selections available, press play and let the magic unfold as it adds sound effects, music, and character voices to your read-aloud sessions. It's a game-changer for bringing stories to life and keeping students hooked. Whether we're diving into classic literature or exploring contemporary tales, Novel Effect never fails to captivate the imaginations of my students. Give it a try and watch as your students' enthusiasm for reading reaches new heights!

At the end of this year, we say farewell to two of our Instructional Tech Coaches.
Raquel Sandoval-Gonzalez is returning to Oregon to be a Mathematics teacher at Nyssa Middle School. She has been with our team for the last two years and has done amazing work with AI, Digital Citizenship, her various Training Series sessions, as well as leading the AELA Equity Coaching cohort. We will miss everything she has had to offer!
Michael Fitzgerald will also be going back to the classroom, to teach 5th grade at Bowman Creek. He has been with our department for seven(!!) years and has been an integral part of our work with 1:1 Chromebooks (remember when that was a new thing?), Computer Science, 21st Century Skills, and Instructional Coaching. DOT won't be the same without him, but we're glad that Auburn students will get to benefit from all his talents.
A big round of applause for our amazing Computational Thinking Champions this year! The valuable skills of computational thinking they've learned about this year will equip our young minds with the problem-solving and critical thinking tools they need to thrive in an increasingly tech-driven world. Thank you to our CTC's for embracing this challenge and for fostering a love of learning in your students!
Our amazing 23/24 Computational Thinking Champions are:
Alaura Keith (Alpac), Naomi Elliot (Arthur Jacobsen) Kim Bunker (Gildo Rey), Michael Martin (Ilalko), Chelsea Weiman (Hazelwood), Amanda Roberson (Lakeland Hills), Jamie Whitney & Ashley Verkler (Washington), John Korn (Lea Hill), Stephanie Long (Pioneer) and Emilia Shuman (Willow Crest)
In several of Auburn's elementary schools, students showcased their writing skills but also their budding computer science talents through a Code.org unit of study. Using the recently added CS Connections unit "Coding with Poetry", tech specialists and classroom teachers supported students in learning how to use computer animations to bring their poems to life. Partnering with a local poetry group to share their love of poetry, two winners emerged.
Congratulations to these innovative young poets for weaving together their creative language and 21st-century skills!
