Using the Newline Board as a Standalone Device
Your Newline board is designed to share and create content as a stand-alone device. Think of it like a big tablet. You can access browsers and apps just like you would from your Chromebook directly on the Newline board.
Once you are logged into your profile on the board, you can log into your Google account. This allows you to directly pull up your slides, class assignments, as well as other platforms like Clever, Google Classroom, and more.
This is a great option as it avoids the complexities that come with either casting or hardwiring your Chromebook to the Newline board.
Connecting to your Chromebook
You can directly connect your Chromebook to your Newline board via USB-C, which enables you to have touchback. This means you can navigate what is displayed on the board by touch. Sound is also automatically shared when directly connecting your Chromebook.
This option requires you to connect your Chromebook via the USB-C provided in your box to the Newline board. Other cords may not be of the right quality and grade to allow for touchback.
When displaying through a direct connection, the Newline board acts as a second monitor. You can choose to mirror or extend your display through the settings on your Chromebook (Settings > Device > Displays). If you choose to extend your display, you will also want to increase the display size.
Casting from your Chromebook
You can cast wirelessly from a Chromebook to your Newline board. This enables you, and your students, to mirror what is on the Chromebook screen. You will have the option to share a tab, window, or entire screen.
You will not have touchback while casting and will need to control the screen using your Chromebook. If you do touch the board during casting, it will automatically go into annotate mode.
To cast wirelessly, visit the screen sharing button on the Newline homescreen, and join the session on displaynote.com/join.

Saving Whiteboards to work on later
It is helpful to have access to Whiteboards you have created on the Newline board at a later time for a variety of reasons. Saving the Whiteboard creates a interactive whiteboard file that
Needing to pause a lesson immediately
Wanting to share student work done on the Newline board to a later group
Ensuring the lesson you made on a Newline board is available later.
Changing Theme and Wallpaper
Personalize your Newline board by changing the Theme and Wallpaper.
Theme changes the way that buttons appear, the colors of apps, and font. Wallpaper changes the background only. You can select a theme and include a different background. Changes are made only to your profile, so no need to worry if you share a board with multiple folks!
Changing the Source
There are a few different ways to change the source on your Newline! Source refers to the player, media storage, or device from which content originates (such as a Chromebook, a document camera, or other devices plugged in to your board).
FAQs
How do I clean the device?
Use only the cleaning solution and microfiber cloth found in the box that came with your Newline board to clean the screen. Spray the solution directly on the cloth and then wipe down the board's screen while it is powered off. Do not spray the cleaning solution directly on the board's screen.
