Using Online Resources and Protecting Student Privacy
Students' personally identifiable information (PII) may be used to access online educational resources as long as the application does not require more than directory information AND participating students’ families have not opted them out of sharing directory information. Auburn School District examines electronic resources which rely on the use of students' PII. Below are those identified in use in the district and their evaluations according to the district's security and privacy standards. The evaluation rubric is described below the inventory of tools.
Once you've identified an online resource to support learning for your students, check this list for guidance on protection of student data and privacy.
If the resource you've identified is on the list:
Consider the rating/rubric and use approved tools with guidance provided. Access educational resources for more information.
If parent permission is required, please check with your BTC/TSS to ensure all students have permission on-file in Skyward.
If the resource you've identified is not on the list:
Fill out and submit the New Software Request form for online website tools and resources (including Chromebook extensions and Android apps).
Note that purchased resources and/or partnerships with outside agencies are subject to the district's data security requirements for terms of service or data sharing agreements. Purchase contracts must be signed by the Assistant Superintendent of Business Services.
For assistance, contact Jennifer Clouser, Executive Director Technology Department. The installation or upgrades of these resources or data integration support still require Project support requests through the Department of Technology.
