Standard Devices
Standard hardware provides equal access for staff and students across all Auburn schools.
Computers
PC Desktop
Every teacher has access to a PC desktop in their classroom. All PCs in Auburn are replaced on a 5-year cycle. PCs in classrooms that stay beyond their rotation will not receive service from the Department of Technology.
Every desktop will have one monitor, one keyboard, and one mouse for accessories.
Standard Chromebooks
Elementary students have access to a Chromebook cart in their classrooms that contain Chromebooks. Secondary students in ASD have receive a Chromebook, charger, and case. Students are expected to bring their Chromebook charged to school everyday and keep the Chromebook in its protective case at all times. Visit the Student 1:1 page for more information.
Touchscreen Chromebooks
ASD teachers are assigned touchscreen Chromebooks to access online curriculum and present digital materials. These Chromebooks can connect to an LCD projector or wirelessly to any LFD. A stylus comes with every teacher Chromebook. Kindergarten students also have touchscreen Chromebooks.
For more information on using a touchscreen to teach, watch this video.
Internet Hotspot
ASD can provide Internet hotspots to families without internet access at home. If you have a student that needs a hotspot for accessing online materials at home, connect with your BTC.
Visit the ASD Technology for Families site for more information.
Stylus Features for Touchscreen
The Stylus button in the bottom right of the Chromebook provides access to the following features:
Make a quick note in Google Keep.
Annotate screenshot of either the whole screen or just a region and save to Google Keep.
Laser pointer trail follows the stylus
Magnifying glass follows the stylus
Erase with the back end of the stylus when making notes
Digital Presentation
Every classroom has equipment for presenting digital information to students. Schools may have one of the following:
LCD projectors that present through a wired connection
LFDs (large format displays) that can present through wired connection or wirelessly by connecting with an Airtame device
Newline Interactive Board that presents directly through the board, a wired connection, or wirelessly with the built in Display Note casting software
Large Format Display
The LFD is a wall mounted display screen with multiple HDMI inputs. One of these inputs is equiped with an Airtame device that allows the teacher to present a Chromebook or laptop screen to the display. The Airtame uses a wifi connection and cannot be used in conjunction with a standard district PC. An Ipevo digital document camera is included with the Airtame and LFD.
Airtame
Every classroom LFD has a connected Airtame device that allows wireless streaming from a laptop or Chromebook.
Airtame requires the Windows app (on PCs) or Chrome app (on Chromebooks).
Newline Interactive Board
The Newline Interactive Board is a wall mounted display screen that allows for touch capability. The board is an independent device that allows for white boarding, web access, and more. Chromebooks can also be plugged into a USB-C port on the front of the board, which also provides a touchscreen display of the Chromebook. The board also provides wireless casting through the built-in Display Note software.
Visit the Newline Interactive Board page for more information!
Projector
In classrooms without an LFD, teachers can present digital materials to students by connecting a Chromebook, laptop, or PC to the HDMI connection of an LCD projector. A document camera is also included as part of this presentation station. The document camera could be an digital Ipevo which plugs into computer, or it could be a document camera that plugs directly into the projector.
Ipevo Visualizer
The Ipevo Visualizer is a compact, digital document camera that can be used with any desktop PC, laptop, or Chromebook by plugging directly into the classroom presentation computer. Using the Ipevo Visualizer with a Chromebook requires the Visualizer Chrome extension.
Consult this guide for information on setting up an Ipevo document camera.
Topcat/Redcat
In each new building as of 2019, classrooms are equipped with a Topcat microphone system. Classroom microphones are worn by the presenter to amplify their voice using the built-in overhead speaker system. In other buildings, a set of Redcat microphone systems can be found. These are portable versions of the Topcat systems.
