We are excited to announce that the date for this year's Tech Connect conference will be 8th February, 2025. It will not be a conference without presenters, though, and we would love to see you (yes, you!) share your great ideas with other classroom teachers from around the region.
If you are interested, fill out the form linked below, or contact your Tech Coach if you have questions.
NCCE (the second best tech conference in Washington) returns to Seattle on 26th-28th February. Speakers will include Dan Fitzpatrick ("The AI Educator") and Matt Miller (from Ditch That Textbook). For any Auburn teachers who wish to attend, you have two options:
1) Speak to your administrator to fill out an Innovation Funds application before Winter Break. (This must be filled out by your admin, as this will involve your absence from the building.) Innovation Funds will cover the conference registration and substitute coverage (if required). This is due by the start of Winter Break.
2) Use other sources of funds (building budget, grants, etc.) - there is no group code this year.
Have you ever wished you could get your Seesaw library even more organized? Now you can! Any activity you save, create, or edit gets added to the My Library section of the Seesaw Resource Library. The original level of organization that existed was the ability to group your activities into collections. Now, you are able to create sections within collections. For those of us that have a lot of resources saved in our library, this is going to make it so much easier to keep track of all the content! To do this, open any of your collections and click the Organize button on the right side. You then have the option to reorder activities and create sections to group them under.
Check out this help article to learn more about organizing your library with collections and sections.
When creating slides, family communications, or any type of media, remember that approximately 1 in 12 males and 1 in 200 females experience some form of color blindness. Using contrast checkers, like WebAIM's Contrast Checker, ensures your content is accessible to everyone, including students, families, and colleagues.
Quick Tip: When designing, aim for a contrast ratio of at least 4.5:1 for body text and 3:1 for large text or headings. For more tips or support, reach out to your Instructional Technology Coach.
Here is how contrast checking supports all learners through culturally responsive teaching practices:
P3 Learning Environments Are Physically and Culturally Inviting: Accessible materials create a warm, inclusive environment where all students can engage equitably, regardless of visual challenges.
P5 Instructional Changes Are Made to Accommodate Differences in Learners: Adjusting visual content with contrast checkers reflects a commitment to meeting diverse learning needs through thoughtful instructional design.
Did you know you can create your own bookings page in Outlook? Similar to other booking services, the Outlook Bookings page creates a link that allows people to schedule a meeting with you. You can set up multiple booking types for folks to choose from (e.g., Office Hours, Collaborative Planning Meeting) each with a time duration of your choosing. When setting up your bookings page, you can set up your availability during which people can set up an appointment with you. When people book time using your bookings page, you will receive an email notifying you of the meeting, and the event will automatically be created in your calendar. Once your bookings page is set up, include the link in your email signature for quick and easy access for parents and colleagues.
For parent conferences, Skyward offers a Conference Scheduler that unifies the experience for your school.
It can be very helpful to use a large cursor on a Chromebook when demonstrating actions that require people to see how a mouse navigates on a screen. That is is an also an extremely useful feature that can be enabled on a Newline Pro Q board. This video shows how to change the cursor size setting.
You can now set your pronouns to display for your Google account. This will show them in places like Google Meet and smart chips in Docs. To set this up:
Go to your About me page
Click Pronouns
Select your pronouns from the list or add a custom pronoun
Bonus: This is a great time to update your picture for your Google account. It is extremely helpful to have a photo of yourself. When others are making sure they have the correct person added, the photo is another way to confirm. If it is helpful, remember that the photo is more to help other than it is for yourself. You already know what you look like!
As we know, "AI Detection" apps are deeply flawed and shouldn't be used. So, how can teachers prevent students bypassing learning with AI chatbots?
MagicSchool now includes a tool to help you create assignments (or reconfigure existing assignments) that cannot be answered completely with AI tools. Often, this will involve incorporating different instructional moves like group work or oral assessment, but it will also give recommendations for the trusty five-paragraph essay to assess aspects that AI cannot respond to.
Also, remember to use the red/yellow/green AI signals in your lessons so that students are aware of when they can and cannot use AI. These can be found in the ASD AI Guidelines.

Never shop over public WiFi.
Use extreme caution when buying from online marketplaces (FB Marketplace, Craigslist, OfferUp, etc.).
Scammers are coming from all angles these days: text messages, emails, robocalls, voicemails, even QR codes.
Avoid clicking any links that you are not 100% sure are safe.
Make sure all security software and applications are up to date on all your devices.
Have strong, unique passwords for every account, and enable multi-factor authentication on any account you can.
Use a password manager (1Password, Keepass, etc) so you don’t have to remember every one of the passwords.
NEVER SHARE YOUR PASSWORDS WITH ANYONE! (Including coworkers and substitute teachers.)
Sometimes things happen and thieves get access to your accounts and go on a spending spree. The sooner you know about it, the smaller the damage.
Check your accounts regularly.

Low Balance

Large ATM withdrawals
If you are not planning on making any large purchases, freeze your credit.
