It was great! This is my first time at #techconnect and I'll be coming back!
Great stuff! As a new teacher to ASD, I'm very impressed with this event.
Thank you for this opportunity for our ASD teachers to share the amazing tech tools they are using in their classrooms.
I always enjoy learning new technology items and I can use them in my classroom tomorrow.
DoT has done another spectacular job...I've been to all 3, always well-planned and executed. Great talent within our ranks.
Welcome to Jacob Bucy the new Lead Desktop Support Technician. Jacob comes to ASD with over 15 years’ experience as a customer-focused IT professional with extensive knowledge of support issues and related infrastructure needs. He is most recently with the Arctic Storm Management Group and previously Microsoft via consulting agencies. Jacob was a student intern with the technology department in 2002 and is an Auburn High School graduate.
Concurrently, Lawrence Boyd assumes the role of lead engineer in the new department structure. This structure eliminates a management position in the department while elevating team leaders and advancing our technicians' vision for stronger and more knowledgeable teaming in service to schools.
Jacob and Lawrence will be sharing an office and partnering closely as will their groups. Thank you for your patience as the department settles into new routines. DOT will be sharing new project processes in the coming months, as well, in an effort to serve all schools and departments as well as possible.
With the roll out of new teacher devices this month, here is an important update for Cast for Education. Google has released an update to fix the problem that makes it difficult for some teachers to use this app. Just follow these instructions.
Check out our Instructional Technology page for more information.
Each month, we will be featuring video highlights of how teachers around the district are using their Chromebooks to address 21st Century Learning Skills ("The 4 Cs"): communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking.
This month, Erika Moore at Ilalko Elementary shows how she uses her device untethered to support her students more, and provide more dynamic, individualized instruction.
If you are using technology in a similarly forward-thinking way, and would like to be featured in the newsletter, please reach out to your Instructional Technology Specialist.
ASD will be transitioning students to an “approved only” list of Chromebook extensions beginning in February 2019.
To avoid any disruption to teaching and learning, your input on extensions used in classes is needed. Please complete this form to have extensions reviewed and added to the approved list (linked on the form). The form will remain open until the end of January. After that date, teachers can request additions to the list by submitting a TMA work order.
As extensions and apps are added, requests for permission to access the Google account are generated. Before giving permission, consider these implications:
How secure is this site or app?
How will this site or app use my data?
Can I delete my data from this site or app?
Will this site or app tell me if something changes?
Who else can see my data on this site or app?
For more information, talk to your building ITSS, Tech TOSA, or check out this Google Support website.
