The Utah Chapter of the American Planning Association (APA Utah) is a non-profit professional organization for planners throughout the state, encompassing all planning disciplines.
Our organization is dedicated to promoting good planning principles to create a better future for Utah.
APA Utah strives to offer various educational opportunities for professional planners, citizen planners, and everyone involved in shaping our communities.

Volunteer Statement: APA Utah is powered by its volunteers. Their willingness to share time, talent, and ideas is what allows the chapter to host meaningful conferences, provide valuable programming, and build a strong planning community. We are deeply grateful for their contributions and the role they play in advancing the profession across Utah.
APA Utah has undertaken a thoughtful and strategic governance restructuring process to improve board functionality, clarify roles and responsibilities, and align with nonprofit best practices and APA national standards. The multi-phase effort has included updates to board composition, a comprehensive bylaws review, and the development of governance plans in collaboration with a governance specialist. Legal counsel, national APA review, and member engagement have all been integral to the process.
2023–2024: Initial adjustments to board composition.
2024 – Early 2025: Early work begins on updating bylaws.
January–March 2025: APA Utah partners with a governance specialist to develop governance plans and board structure proposals.
March 2025: Draft bylaws submitted for APA national and legal review.
April 2025: APA Utah forms a working group to refine board structure and functions.
May 2025: APA Utah presents the need for restructuring and progress to date at the Spring Conference.
June–July 2025: Legal review feedback is incorporated; final refinements made to bylaws.
August 2025: APA Utah Board approves revised bylaws to move forward for a chapter-wide vote.
OCT 1-30, 2025: Voting opened to membership
Oct 31, 2025: New Bylaws approved by members.
