Authority:
This Committee is a Standing Committee established by the APA Utah Board to leverage the experience and institutional knowledge of past Chapter Presidents in support of the organization’s strategic priorities and ongoing programs.
Purpose:
To engage former APA Utah Presidents in meaningful, supportive roles that benefit the Chapter’s leadership, programs, and initiatives, particularly in areas where their experience and networks are valuable.
Membership:
Membership is open to individuals who have served as President of APA Utah.
There is no formal application or appointment process; participation is voluntary.
The current Past President shall have priority to serve as Committee Chair, if they choose. If they choose not to, any Committee member may serve as Committee Chair.
The Committee may include all willing and available former Presidents and may invite additional advisors as needed.
Responsibilities:
The Past President Committee may support the Chapter by:
Advising the APA Utah Board and Executive Committee as needed.
Assisting in mentorship program development and implementation.
Supporting FAICP nominations and candidate development every other year.
Maintaining connections with APA National, CPC (Chapter Presidents Council), and other chapters.
Supporting the Nominating Task Force, particularly with outreach and candidate cultivation.
Offering guidance on Chapter policy, history, and strategic direction.
Supporting Chapter fundraising, scholarship efforts, and sponsorship outreach when appropriate.
Meetings and Attendance
The Committee shall meet as needed, with the schedule determined annually by the Chair.
Members are encouraged to attend the annual Board Retreat and participate in Committee efforts during key planning or nomination seasons.
Meeting notes shall be kept and shared with the Executive Committee as applicable.
Operations
The Chair (current Past President) reports to the Executive Committee and serves as liaison to the Board.
Collaboration with other Committees and Task Forces is encouraged to meet organizational goals.
Decisions requiring a vote will be made by a simple majority of participating members.
Helpful Skills and Interests:
While open to all former Presidents, the following skills and interests are especially valuable:
Strong knowledge of APA and APA Utah operations
Experience with leadership development and mentoring
Familiarity with national-level APA initiatives and CPC activities
Commitment to upholding APA Utah’s mission and strategic plan
Time Commitment:
Time commitments will vary depending on committee activity.
Chair: 2–3 hours per month, more during FAICP years or nomination season
Members: As available, generally 1–2 hours/month when active
Charter Modifications:
This charter may be reviewed annually and updated by the APA Utah Board to reflect evolving organizational needs.
