This Student Engagement Committee operates under the oversight of the APA Utah Board of Directors. It may coordinate with other committees and task forces as needed.
To foster connection, collaboration, and communication between APA Utah and students, faculty, and planning programs at Utah's colleges and universities. The committee promotes student involvement in planning activities and helps prepare future planners for successful careers.
Serve as a liaison between APA Utah and university planning programs and student organizations.
Promote APA Utah opportunities to students, including events, scholarships, awards, mentorship, conference volunteering and AICP prep.
Facilitate inter-university collaboration, including communication among faculty, student organizations, and APA Utah.
Support and strengthen the APA Student Chapter(s), including helping with leadership transitions and student engagement.
Plan and schedule APA Utah presentations in early-career planning classes at the University of Utah, Utah State University, and Brigham Young University each academic year.
Share relevant university events with APA Utah for inclusion in newsletters or communications.
Encourage student attendance and participation in APA Utah conferences, events, and task forces.
Maintain an up-to-date contact list of faculty and student representatives across Utah planning programs.
Provide updates to the APA Utah Board on student engagement and committee efforts at least twice annually.
Assist with organizing conference poster tours as needed.
Any APA Utah member may serve on the committee.
Faculty advisors, student leaders, and recent graduates are encouraged to participate.
The committee shall aim for representation from each Utah university or college with a planning-related program.
The Chair shall be a current student appointed by the APA Utah President with Board approval.
A Vice-Chair may be appointed if needed, and may be a student or recent graduate.
The Chair will lead meetings, set agendas, and serve as the primary liaison to the APA Utah Board.
The committee will meet at least quarterly during the academic year.
Meeting schedules will be determined by the Chair.
Student Chair and committee members shall serve one-year terms, renewable upon continued student status or by Board discretion.
The Chair shall provide updates to the APA Utah Board or designated Board liaison.
The committee may collaborate with other APA UT Committees, Task Forces, or Interest Groups as appropriate.
Meeting notes shall be kept for records and shared with the Board if requested.

This charter may be reviewed annually and updated by the APA Utah Board to reflect evolving organizational needs.
