Planning Commissioners & Citizen Planners Engagement Group
Purpose:
The Planning Commissioners & Citizen Planners Engagement Group exists to support and connect appointed commissioners, advisory board members, and engaged citizens who participate in planning-related decision-making across Utah. This group provides a welcoming space to share experiences, ask questions, and learn about planning principles, best practices, and the evolving role of citizen planners in shaping communities. The group aims to build capacity, confidence, and connection among Utah’s citizen planners and the professionals who support them.
Membership:
Open to all APA Utah members, including commissioners, citizen planners, students, and interested residents. There is no limit to the number of participants.
Leadership:
Each group will have at least one designated Engagement Group Lead. Leads are volunteers who coordinate group activities and serve as a liaison to the APA Utah Board.
Responsibilities of the Engagement Group Lead:
Plan and host at least one virtual discussion or event per quarter.
Submit a brief written summary report to the Board after each meeting or event.
Advocate for the group’s needs and interests to the APA Utah Board.
Propose ideas, initiatives, or resources that support the mission of APA Utah and the goals of the Planning Commissioners & Citizen Planners group.
Support from APA Utah:
APA Utah will support engagement groups by:
Publicizing events and meetings.
Providing technical support for virtual meetings.
Offering guidance from the board liaison and Executive Manager.
Allocating budget funds when feasible and approved.
