4.1 Standing Committees
Standing Committees are vital to APA Utah’s governance, each led by a Board member and guided by a charter that defines their role in advancing strategic priorities and oversight.
The Board retains flexibility to create or modify standing committees as needed to address evolving member and organizational needs. All standing committees report to the Board.
Current Standing Committees include:
Communications Committee (CC)
Partners & Affiliates Committee (PAC)
Professional Development & Programs Committee (PDPC)
Legislative Policy Committee (LPC)
Membership Committee (MC)
Admin & Finance Committee (AFC)

Each committee has a formal charter located in the Handbook appendices
Size range: 3–11 members
Defined purpose and oversight
Committee chairs are expected to lead their committees in accordance with their charter. Most committees are chaired by a Board member, or in some cases, co-chaired. The Board appoints chairs. The Board provides oversight to ensure committees align with Chapter goals and fulfill the responsibilities outlined in their charters.
The Board may modify or add additional subcommittees to serve the needs of members at any time.
4.2 Task Forces
Task Forces are temporary groups with specific goals and timelines, led by appointees chosen by the President or Committee Chair and approved by the Board. They help APA Utah respond quickly to emerging needs and are overseen to ensure alignment with Chapter goals. Task forces can be created, changed, or ended by the Board. Current task forces include:
Awards
Nominating
Sponsorship
Audit
Conferences
FAICP
The committee chair, who is responsible for the committee that oversees the task force, shall provide guidance to the task force leads and ensure that the task force fulfills its responsibilities as outlined in its charter.
The Board may modify or add additional Task Force(s) to serve the needs of members at any time.
4.3 Engagement Groups
Engagement Groups are member-led communities supported by APA Utah to promote networking and growth. Coordinated by the Membership Committee, they enrich chapter culture without direct Board oversight. The Board may adjust these groups to meet member needs.
APA Utah supports member-driven groups, including:
Beyond City Limits
Greater Wasatch Planners
Transportation & Mobility
AICP Study Group
Planning Commissioners & Citizen Planners
Early Career Planners
Plot & Plan (Book Club)
These groups do not report directly to the Board but are coordinated by the Membership Committee (MC). They foster member connections and represent shared interests.
The Board may modify or add additional Engagement Group(s) to serve the needs of members at any time.
Committee and Task Force charters are provided in the appendices.
