Did I hear you are ready for SUMMERTIME FUN?
As the summertime approaches, we are thrilled to announce the start of Black Dollar Days Month. This is a special time for us to unite and pledge our support to various Black-owned businesses and brands, making a conscious effort to uplift our communities. Madam Supreme has called upon us to make a pledge to spend $19.08 per week towards these deserving businesses. And track your spending at www.aka1908.com The instructions can be found in the June 1st communication from corporate.
Our Black Dollar Days committee has created a weekly calendar of black-owned businesses and brands that you can support. Please see the flyers for details.
To make tracking your spending easier for the chapter, please scan the QR code on the flyer or you can click BLACK DOLLAR DAYS RECEIPT UPLOAD.
In addition, we are excited to introduce "PINK FRIDAY" throughout the month of June. Each Friday holds a special focus on showcasing our support for various industries and categories. Here is the schedule:
June 2: Let us come together to celebrate and uplift our beloved restaurants.
June 9: Take time for self-care and personal pampering, highlighting beauty salons, barber shops, yoga/fitness studios, and more.
June 16: Discover the wonders of local retail shops and boutiques, supporting their growth and success.
June 23: Show your support by purchasing products from esteemed Black-owned brands available at Target and/or Walmart. Consider brands like Patti's Good Life Foods, founded by Honorary Soror Patti LaBelle, Miss Jessie's Products, founded by sisters Miko and Titi Branch, and G.L.A.M. products, owned by Soror Tiffany Cartwright.
June 30: Conclude the month by dining at your favorite restaurants once again.
Remember, on each "PINK FRIDAY" we encourage you to flood your social media timelines with the message of "Wearing Pink, Spending Green, and Buying Black."
Let's showcase the power and impact of Alpha Kappa Alpha women of the Award-Winning, Tenacious Tau Rho Omega chapter. Share your activities by using the hashtags #AKAPinkFridays #BlackDollarDays #BuildEconomicWealth, and make sure to tag @akasorority1908. Also, please send your pictures and videos to Soror Shupon Mitchell at communications@akatro.org
Together, we can make a significant difference. Let's embrace the spirit of Black Dollar Days Month and PINK FRIDAY as we strive to build economic wealth and empower our communities. Let us SOAR across the DFW Metroplex!
Please continue to send your healing thoughts, prayers, and well wishes to our beloved Madam Basileus, Soror MarQuisia Johnson. Your positive energy matters and can make a difference in her journey towards wellness.

Hello Oh So Pretty Sorors!
OUR STANDARDS
The Standards Committee presented Lemon Squeezes: The Sequel on June 3, 2023 at the Crosby Recreation Center. We truly hope something was said or learned to help you engage in productive, crucial conversations.
A draft of the Manual of Standard Procedures was provided to every soror in attendance at the May chapter meeting. Because attendance was lower than expected, I have worked with the world-famous Technology Team to provide an electronic copy for everyone via Wild Apricot. As a reminder, the Manual of Standard Procedures is not a document to be used in isolation. A way to consider the contents is that the MSP is the “how to” to the what of the Chapter Bylaws. The deadline to provide the first round of feedback was June 3rd. As soon as all the bylaw revisions have been voted on by the body and the Standards Committee has reviewed and presented the MSP information, we should be able to vote in September. Slow, but go…it is a process. With all of this information in mind, please continue using the link below until further notice.
Manual of Standard Procedures Thoughts
Moreover, I have worked with the Technology Team to provide a copy of the Soror Code of Ethics via Wild Apricot. It was provided last year; however, now that we are growing, we want to make sure everyone has a copy. This document is good information for all. Read it, study it, memorize it…there will be a test! Just kidding!
Further on down the road is Culture Walk: Part II, which will be presented at Chapter Retreat.
As a friendly reminder on our journey to compliance as well as operating procedures defining who we are, we are going to go…go slow…but, go…correctly. Why? Because we are the Award Winning, Tenacious Tau Rho Omega.
Stay tuned!
