Soror MarQuisia Johnson, Basileus
Greetings Sorors!
May is recognized as Mental Health Month. It is a time to raise awareness about mental health and to reduce the stigma surrounding mental health conditions in the black community. Our goal is to educate the public about the importance of mental health and to encourage individuals to take care
of their own mental health.
I am thrilled to say that our recent Mental Health forum, "Mind Your Mindset," was an incredibly empowering and engaging event. The attendance was phenomenal, and I was impressed by the level of participation and enthusiasm from everyone who attended. Our panelists were knowledgeable and passionate, and their insights and advice were incredibly valuable.
Overall, "Mind Your Mindset" was an excellent reminder of the importance of prioritizing mental health and taking care of ourselves and each other. Kudos to Madam Chairman and Co-Chairman Soror Ruth Greer, Soror Ambria Hawkins, and the mental health committee on a JOB WELL
DONE!!
Sorors, here are some self-care tips that can help you take care of your mental health:
1. Get Enough Sleep: Getting enough sleep is crucial for mental health. Aim to get seven to nine hours of sleep each night. If you have trouble sleeping, try establishing a bedtime routine, avoiding caffeine and electronics before bed, and creating a comfortable sleep environment.
2. Stay Active: Regular physical activity can help reduce stress and anxiety, boost mood, and improve sleep. Find an activity that you enjoy, such as yoga, jogging, or dancing, and incorporate it into your routine.
3. Practice Mindfulness: Mindfulness is the practice of being present and fully engaged in the current moment. It can help reduce stress and anxiety and improve mood. Try practicing mindfulness techniques, such as deep breathing, meditation, or visualization.
4. Connect with Others: Social support is crucial for mental health. Make time to connect with friends, family, and sorors.
5. Seek Professional Help: If you are struggling with your mental health, don't hesitate to seek professional help. Mental health professionals, such as therapists and counselors, can provide support and guidance.
6. Engage in Hobbies: Engaging in activities that you enjoy can help reduce stress and improve your mood. Find a hobby that you enjoy, such as painting, cooking, or reading, and make time for it regularly.
7. Practice Self-Compassion: Be KIND and gentle with yourself. Recognize that it is okay to make mistakes and that you are doing the best you can. Practice self-compassion by treating yourself with the same kindness and understanding that you would offer to a Soror.
Mental health is an essential aspect of overall health and taking care of your mental health should be a priority.
Also, I want to take a moment to wish all the amazing mothers in our chapter a very Happy Mother's Day! Your unwavering love, dedication, and hard work are truly appreciated.

Happy May, Sorors! And, may the goodness of The Lord shower down on you and yours.
Madam Basileus is slowly getting her strength back, so let’s continue praying for her recovery. Amen!
OUR STANDARDS
Lemon Squeezes: The Sequel is still on deck! We are looking forward to having open and sisterly dialogue about how to engage in productive, crucial conversations. The program is scheduled for June 3. Please stay tuned for more information.
The first draft of the Manual of Standard Procedures is done. The Standards committee reviewed the first draft and we are preparing to share it with chapter members during the May meeting. Each member will receive a copy (you will need to sign for it) to review. There will be a QR code to collect questions and comments. Once the manual is clean and ready to go, we will vote on it in September.
Further on down the road is Culture Walk: Part II, which will be presented at Chapter Retreat.
As a friendly reminder on our journey to compliance as well as operating procedures defining who we are, we are going to go…go slow…but, go…correctly. Why? Because we are Tau Rho Omega.
Stay tuned!
