In our reading, we have continued to focus on strategies to help our understanding of the books we read. This week we put our word solving strategies to work to solve longer words that we don't know the meaning of. We then used the context clues in the book to solve the meaning of the word.
We continued our Wabanaki studies. We learned about more about language and how in english we can use one word for many meanings, but in the Wabanaki languages there are many different words used. For example, in the Panawahpskek (Penobscot) language, there are different words for wind storm, rain storm, and big storm. We have also learned about the Mi'kmaq Nation and color words in Mi'kmaq.
This week started persuasive writing. We learned that our words can help make a difference in the world. We have been practicing picking a problem and writing to convince others to help solve it. We also had fun reading the book "Duck! Rabbit!" by Amy Krouse Rosenthal. We had to decide if we thought it was a duck or a rabbit and then write reasons supporting our opinions. We then shared our opinions with the class in an attempt to persuade one another.
