Another fantastic day! We continued working on our classroom routines and expectations today while introducing more materials and activities.
This morning we started our first Writing Workshop. We learned that stories having a beginning, middle, and end. After reading the book Carl's Summer Vacation by Alexandra Day, we all wrote our own stories about summer. At the end of workshop time, we gathered together as authors to share our writing with one another.
During math, we learned how to play the game Top-It. We played with partners before learning a few more math games and activities.
Today, Ms. Louise brought us monarch caterpillars! Ms. Louise is a volunteer at our school and she keeps a milkweed garden. I was unable to find monarchs this year and Ms. Louise was kind enough to share 8 with us! We will be learning about monarch butterflies and their life cycle.
For reading workshop today, we learned about more stations and activies that are options for us. Soon we will be starting reading and word study groups. Once we practice our stations and know how to use them independently, I will start meeting with students for individualized and small group instruction. We will also be doing this in math!
