OUR WEEK
In math this week we continued to introduce more math station work. We learned about different games we can play with our partner or by ourselves.
In math groups, we are all still working on our first unit, exploring all areas of mathematics and learning that we are mathematicians! Our kindergartners had fun learning about making patterns!
In reading, we have continued to learn what it means to be a reader. This week we practiced reading a book "Mrs. Wishy-Washy" together and then acted it out. Everyone also all read a book with me and we picked out book bags! Soon, book bags will be going home with familiar books in them. We are still setting up our reading workshop routine, so we aren't reading or doing word study on a daily basis yet, but we are getting there!
During reading workshop, Ms. Dee joins us and works on handwriting. We love it when she joins us!
This week we also learned that readers take sneak peaks at books and make predictions. They also reread to learn more and think beyond the text. We reread the Elephant and Piggy book by Mo Williams "I like Slop!" and learned it wasn't just a story about Piggy liking slop. It was about friendship, trying new things, learning about others' feelings, and so much more!
We also practiced buddy reading with the new books we learned how to read.
In writing workshop, we are continuing to learn about what authors and illustrators can add to their stories and illustrations. We have also been practicing drawing people by using shapes we know how to draw.
On Friday, we had our first Maine Outdoor School lesson! We had a great time meeting our teacher, Pascal, and learning about expectations and exploring the area around our school!
