ANNOUNCEMENTS
Monday, September 7: Labor Day, no school
Wenesday, September 8: Starting this upcoming Wednesday, Ms. Jasmin, a senior attending the Univeristiy of Maine as an Early Childhood Education major, will be joining our classrooms as part of her field experience practicum. I have not shared this with our students, but I am very excited for her to learn about our school and classroom community as part of her education!
Thursday, September 10, 5:00 pm - 6:00pm: Back to school BBQ and Open House
I hope that you are able to join us for our bbq and open house! We'll be grilling up hotdogs and will have sides, and dessert and it is a great time to visit the classroom!
Friday, September 11: Start of our Maine Outdoor School programming.
On Tuesday, I will be sending home paperwork about MOS, as well as a form to sign. We have been fortunate to participate in their programming thanks to a generous benefactor and The Frenchman Bay Conservancy. This will be our fifth year with Maine Outdoor School. We go outside, rain or shine- so make sure to pack extra clothing/rain coat if it is raining.
It's Friday! That means we start the morning with Rebecca Black's song "Friday" dancing with friends. We take over the gym after breakfast and get the day started with some fantastic dancing and singing!
On Friday mornings, we start the day with free Friday choice. As the year gets going, we will have set practice activities in the morning depending on the day of the week. On Fridays we take a break from those and enjoy choice time together in the morning. Soon we will be starting chess on Friday mornings. We are giving the older students time to teach new friends how to play. Once they get the hang of it, we will partner with a friend from 3-8 so they can be out chess mentors.
Every morning meeting, the helper chooses a game. On Friday, our helper chose Animal Freeze Dance. Always a fun game to play!
For math workshop, we finished exploring our new math materials with our partners.
For motor breaks, we often do Cosmic Kids Yoga. The stories are always very fun and when we take quick breaks, we do Super Yoga! This helps us with our body awareness as well as focus, balance and strength. You can check it out here: https://cosmickids.com/
We enjoyed Ms. Katie's delicious pizza for lunch- a favorite part of every Friday!
For reading workshop and community building, we read the book "Chrysanthemum" by Kevin Henkes. Our job while reading was to think about the changing emotions of the main character and the why behind those emotion changes. We then discussed how we can make sure that our words and actions help our friends bloom and not wilt.
We finished the day with some game and choice time and then headed out to enjoy the sunshine!
