🍎 Field Trip to Treworgy Orchards
Wednesday, October 1st, we will be headed to Treworgy Orchards! Next week we will begin our study of plant life cycles and we will be learning all about apples and pumpkins this fall. At Treworgy, we will be able to pick an apple, pick a pumpkin, feed the animals, and enjoy a tasty snack!
We will be leaving around 9:30 in the morning. We will pack our lunches to eat there and return around 2:30. If you would like to join us there, please let me know, as soon as you can, so I can give Treworgy our numbers. School lunch will be peanut butter and jelly or peanut butter and fluff. If your child usually has school lunch and you would like to send them with a lunch from home, please let me know so Ms. Katie can plan our lunches for the day- If I don't hear from you, I will sign them up for a bagged lunch.
This week, we have been practicing reading the words the characters say with expression. We have had a lot of fun reading and acting out The Three Billy Goats Gruff.
On Tuesday, Mrs. Jones' class joined us for math games. We had a lot of fun playing games with them and they were great teachers!
We are continuing to practice our reading and adding to our book bags! This week, I was finishing up beginning of the year assessments, so we only read a few new books this week. We also have been doing a lot of letter/word study! Kindergarten has been working on the letters a, m, t, and s. With these we started to write and read short vowel words with the letter a. Our first graders have been learning about the Floss Rule- when the letters f, l, s or z come after a short vowel, the letter is doubled. Second grade has joined in on these lessons as a review and have also been reviewing digraphs.
This week, we have been learning about the life cycle of an apple tree and the parts of an apple. We worked on a craft to demonstrate what we have learned! They are now all hanging in our classroom.
On Thursday, our Pre-K friends came in to each share their books inspired by Eric Carle's Brown Bear, Brown Bear What Do You See?. They did a wonderful job reading to us!
At Maine Outdoor School this week, we used our observation skills to complete a signs of fall scavenger hunt.
We then learned about light and shadows. We will be tracking our shadows throughout the next few months to see how they change.
