Description:
This is the second year of the two-year IB Chemistry sequence and a continuation of Chemistry IB 1. It is designed for students who will take the IB Chemistry Higher and/or Standard Level exam in May. Topics are classified into two general themes: a) Structure and b) Reactivity. Structure includes models of the particulate nature of matter (atomic structure, the mole, ideal gases), classification of matter (periodic table, functional groups in organic chemistry), and models of bonding and structure, while Reactivity includes: stoichiometry, thermochemistry, kinetics and equilibrium. Practical lab work continues in the second year of this course as well. The course involves laboratory work, which is internally assessed and forms part of the final IB grade. The course includes practical lab work as part of the IBO’s Internal Assessment requirements that all students are required to complete.
Assessment:
Tests/quizzes/exams/homework and lab work in accordance with IBO assessment practices.
