IB1 Environmental Systems and Societies

IB Diploma Course Students: C or above in 9th or 10th Grade Science (Honors or Regular)

Description:

This is the first year of a two-year, IB course leading to an externally-assessed IB Environmental Systems and Societies examination at the end of the two-year cycle. This interdisciplinary course satisfies the IB requirements for both Group 3 (individuals and societies) and Group 4 (experimental sciences). This course is appropriate for students with an interest in natural sciences and/or social studies, and especially in techniques and knowledge of environmental issues and problems, as well as their impact on societies. Students coming from either a scientific or a non-scientific knowledge background can choose this course. Core topics include: Foundation, Ecology, Biodiversity and Conservation, Water, Land, Atmosphere and climate change, Natural resources and Human Populations and urban systems. The course includes practical lab work culminating in an individual investigation as part of the IBO’s Internal Assessment requirements that all students are required to complete.

Assessment:

Tests/exams/homework and lab work in accordance with IBO assessment practices.
