This is a course that offers all high school students (grades 9-12) the opportunity to take creative control of the content and appearance of their photos in order to communicate a message or an idea.  They will understand their camera’s possibilities by learning the exposure controls. They will explore techniques of composition to create a more attractive or meaningful image. They will understand how to use lighting to achieve best results. They will have a basic knowledge of photo editing software in order to digitally develop and enhance an image. They will research the relationship of photography to other visual arts, analyze their photos and study the achievements of important photographers in history. They will end up with a creative portfolio.

Required materials: Student-owned DSLRs / or compact cameras, card reader and flash USB drives or portable external disks to transfer and backup files.
