Boarders’ Trip to Stonehaven
Last week, our boarders enjoyed their annual trip to Stonehaven - a lovely chance to be together before the S6 pupils depart. The sun shone, the ice creams flowed, and everyone had a brilliant time. Huge thanks to our boarding team for organising such a happy outing.
15th Annual Portsoy Haal
Congratulations to James on his performance at the 15th Annual Portsoy Haal, where he opened the evening’s musical and poetic proceedings with a 15-minute solo recital. He was warmly received and was awarded this year’s Wheeler Prize for outstanding dedication to traditional music at ACMS – his first major solo engagement.
James plans to use the prize money towards either a new accordion or sound equipment. He also made useful contacts on the night, chatting with the other musicians about accordion technique and getting sound advice (literally!) on microphone setup. We’re delighted he had such a positive experience. Bravo, James!
Adam at Grampian Pride
Very best of luck to Adam and his band WyldKat, who will be headlining at Grampian Pride on Saturday 7th June! WyldKat won this year’s Battle of the Bands competition and earned their spot at the top of the bill. Although Adam will leave our tour early, we’ll be cheering him on from Stirling - a brilliant achievement!
New Timetable
A huge thank you to everyone involved in the creation and integration of the new timetable. Coordinating multiple schedules is never easy, and we’re very grateful to the staff at both Dyce Academy and ACMS for working so hard to ensure everything runs as smoothly as possible.
Early Closing – Monday 9th June
Just a gentle reminder that, following our whirlwind weekend of performances, the school will close early at 5.00pm on Monday. A well-earned rest awaits!
A Trip to the Operetta
We’re looking forward to taking the whole school to His Majesty’s Theatre next Thursday to see Franz Lehár’s The Merry Widow. Our relationship with Scottish Opera has grown over the past year, and we’re very grateful for their kind offer of tickets. Pupils will also have the opportunity to meet members of the cast and orchestra.
End of Year Reviews
End-of-year reviews for our S2 to S4 pupils take place next Friday. We are delighted to welcome Andrew McIntosh from Gordonstoun as our external assessor. He will also return the following Friday to review our senior pupils. Our sincere thanks to him for his time and expertise.
ACMS Summer Concert
Our Summer Concert will take place on Saturday 14th June at 5.00pm in Fountain Hall at the Cross Church (formerly Queen’s Cross Church). We look forward to welcoming parents, families, and friends for this special event.
Bagpiping Honours
Congratulations to Kai and Taylor on their recent achievements!
At the Blackford Highland Games, Kai was awarded 1st place overall
Both boys then competed with the Methil and District Pipe Band at the Markinch Highland Games, where the band was placed highly in Grades 2 and 3 categories
Outstanding work from both pipers!
Aberdeen & North-East of Scotland Music Festival
It’s been a wonderful week for ACMS pupils at the Festival. We were delighted to see so many take part and thoroughly enjoy the experience. Adjudicator feedback was thoughtful and encouraging, and several pupils have been invited to perform in tonight’s celebratory concert. It’s fantastic to see the Festival return for its 100th edition – we’re already looking forward to next year. Thank you to the pupils for their dedication, the tutors for their excellent preparation, and the families who helped make it all possible.
ACMS Pop Concert
Come and see ACMS hosting their very own pop concert on Wednesday 2nd July 2025 at 6.30 pm at King's Church, Bridge of Don. It's a free to attend, family friendly concert so bring the whole family!
