Congratulations to everyone involved in Thursday evening’s wonderful English Language Song Concert! 🎶

Our singers gave fantastic performances of music by Britten, Purcell, Coates, Mark Andrews, Christopher Field, William Walton, Hoagy Carmichael, Madeleine Dring, Frank Bridge and Tim Minchin.

As an added treat, our string ensemble performed three movements from Peter Warlock’s vibrant Capriol Suite. 🎻

A huge thank you to Dr Milne for preparing our singers, Mr Maunder for his work with the strings and Mrs Kyle for her wonderful accompanying.

Following the final round of enthusiastic applause, we had the lovely opportunity to involve the audience in a rendition of Happy Birthday for Annorah. 🎂👏

Two of our pupils were understandably starstruck when they had the opportunity to hear the magnificent Sir Bryn Terfel perform at St Margaret’s, Braemar. Sir Bryn presented a wonderful programme of solo repertoire and also performed alongside the excellent Caritas Choir, conducted by Paul Mealor.

Following the concert, Sir Bryn generously took the time to speak with our young singers and offered valuable advice about singing and repertoire. It was an inspiring experience that they will remember for many years.

We are very grateful to Andrew Morrison, who has kindly donated a collection of music to our library.

We are particularly proud of the ACMS music library. It is an outstanding and beautifully curated collection that has been at the musical heart of the School for the past quarter of a century. It is well stocked, well used and extremely well loved. Andrew’s music will have an excellent home here and will serve our young musicians for many years to come.

A very big thank you also goes to Izzy Hall, who has donated a collection of jazz music books. We are always enormously grateful for these thoughtful contributions to our library.

Our boarders enjoyed a varied programme this week. Thursday brought an energetic indoor sports session featuring team games and plenty of laughter. Human Hungry Hippos was, unsurprisingly, a firm favourite! Earlier in the week, Lauren Strachan, an Inclusion Advocate from Four Pillars, led an informative and thought-provoking session on LGBTQ+ inclusion, encouraging open discussion and helping to promote understanding, respect and awareness. A big thank you to Lauren and our boarding staff for organising such engaging activities.

We are excited to be travelling to work with one of our fellow national Centres of Excellence, the City of Edinburgh Music School.

We are very grateful to its Director, Tudor Morris, for this wonderful invitation and for the opportunity to collaborate with talented young musicians from another part of Scotland.

Music by Wesley and Stanford will be on the choral menu, alongside movements from Peter Warlock’s Capriol Suite. We are very much looking forward to a memorable day of collaboration and music-making.
