Dear all,
It’s been a week packed with concerts, assessments, and celebrations...a great ACMS showcase!
🎶 ACMS Summer Concert
A huge congratulations to all pupils who took part in last Saturday’s summer concert at Fountainhall Church at the Cross (formerly Queen’s Cross Church). It was a fantastic opportunity for some of our younger musicians to take centre stage with major solo spots in a large-scale public performance.
Special thanks go to our S6 pupils who kindly returned, not for the spotlight this time, but to support the younger ones in ensembles and behind the scenes. The level of professionalism, preparation, and performance was outstanding, and the rehearsal was impressively focused. It was a pleasure to welcome such a large and warm audience, and a lovely moment to revive our version of Highland Cathedral as the concert finale.
🏆 Dyce Academy Prizegiving
It was a thrill for the whole school to be invited to perform at the Dyce Academy Prizegiving Ceremony, held at King’s Church in Bridge of Don. Over 800 pupils and families watched as we performed our arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody, which went down a treat!
It was also a joy to see so many of our ACMS pupils collecting academic and special achievement awards. A big thank you to Heather for stepping in at short notice to deliver a stunning clarsach solo.
🎻 Upper School End of Year Assessments
Well done to our new S5 and S6 pupils who completed their end-of-year assessments this week. We are once again very grateful to Andrew McIntosh, who travelled down from Gordonstoun to act as our external assessor.
Andrew was impressed with the level of preparation and the musical quality on display. Following on from last week, where James was selected as the ACMS Junior Performer of the Year, we now also have a Senior Performer of the Year - to be revealed later in the term!
🎭 Dyce Academy Youth Theatre Showcase
We’re thrilled to be collaborating with Dyce Academy Youth Theatre (DAYT) for their Musical Showcase on Wednesday 25 June at 7pm in the MPA.
ACMS pupils will be joining in for two of the group items, and we’re excited to support this brilliant student-led initiative. From programming to choreography, the DAYT pupils have taken ownership of the whole event: a testament to their creativity and commitment.
Tickets are just £4 and available from the school office. Do come along if you can.
Our much-anticipated ACMS Summer Prom will be held on Wednesday 2 July, and we’re already buzzing with excitement. It promises to be a joyful evening of pop and rock in a large-scale venue, complete with a professional stage and sound system.
We’re especially delighted that WyldKat, winners of this year’s Grampian Battle of the Bands and recent headliners at Grampian Pride, will be joining us as guest performers. Even better, our very own recent leaver Adam is their drummer!
Tickets are selling fast, but we’d love to fill every seat in our biggest venue yet. Please do spread the word and invite family and friends to come along.
Information is now available about our upcoming Come and Play Days and Open Morning. These will take place slightly earlier this year, in September and October of the 2025–26 academic year.
If you know of any young musicians who might be interested in joining us, please do share the details with them. We love welcoming new talent to ACMS!
Wishing you all a restful and sunny weekend!
