ACMS Weekly Newsletter
Welcome back!
I hope everyone managed to enjoy the past two weeks of glorious sunshine and found some time for rest and relaxation. It’s a slightly shorter week than usual, but here’s a round-up of what we’ve been up to...and what’s coming up.
A quick reminder of our unusual schedule this week:
• Thursday (today) – Early finish at 2:45 pm
• Good Friday – No school
• Saturday & Sunday – No school
Boarding reopens on Sunday afternoon as normal. Please note there will be no after-school ACMS session on Monday, so ACMS will finish at 3:45 pm, in line with Dyce Academy’s usual school day. Everything returns to normal from Tuesday morning.
German Language Evening
We’re looking forward to our recital of German-language music on Thursday 24th April at 6:30 pm. All are welcome - come along and support our pupils!
Performance Spotlight
Best of luck to Alexis, who will be performing in a fundraising concert 'The Archie Foundation Variety Show' at the Tivoli Theatre this Saturday in aid of the Archie Foundation. We’re cheering you on!
Jazz at the Blue Lamp
Our fantastic jazz sax tutor, Matthew Kilner, will be performing as part of the Jazz on a Sunday Afternoon (JOASA) series on Sunday 4th May at 2:00 pm at The Blue Lamp. Students and under-16s get in free!
Take a look at the Jazz at the Blue Lamp website - there are some fantastic concerts coming up.
A Fresh Look in Boarding
We’re thrilled with the new flooring and carpets in the communal area and kitchen of the boarding house. The boarders got their first look on Sunday, and day pupils saw the refreshed space at lunchtime on Monday. A big thank you to Jackie for her hard work in making it all happen over the break. It looks brilliant!
Here’s what some of our pupils have been up to during the break:
• Douglas and Lewis R joined the National Youth Choir of Scotland’s (NYCOS) Changing Voices Boys’ Choir in Linlithgow.
• Kai has been rehearsing with the National Youth Pipe Band of Scotland at The Piping Centre in Glasgow and will be performing in their end-of-year concert at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall this Saturday.
• Sophie is currently with the National Youth Choir of Scotland (NYCOS) National Girls’ Choir in Stirling and will be performing in their concert on Saturday in Edinburgh.
• Heather took part in the Edinburgh International Harp Festival, enjoying both the Baroque Borées and Reels course and a Pedal Harp Extended Techniques course.
It was a real treat to attend the Aberdeen City Orchestra Youth Ensemble concert on the last day of term. Some of our pupils took part in a wonderful performance of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 6 “Pastoral” and Weber’s Bassoon Concerto.
Congratulations to all involved, including the brilliant conductor Christopher Gray, our ACMS pupils, and Lucy Webster - one of our very own tutors - who gave a stunning rendition of the bassoon solo.
A huge well done to Chloe, who has been awarded a scholarship from the Haddo House Choral & Operatic Society following a successful audition. She’ll now be involved in their projects and concerts throughout the year. We’re all excited for her!
Wishing you all a lovely Easter weekend. See you next week, after a long (and hopefully sunny) weekend.
