Dear All,
As we enter the final stretch before our March Concert on the 21st, it’s been another exciting and busy week at ACMS! There’s a real buzz around the school, with pupils working incredibly hard—not just for the concert but also on their own individual projects, both within and beyond ACMS. It’s fantastic to see so much dedication and creativity in action.
All hands on deck as our final Specialist Weekend before the March Concert kicks off today! Rehearsals have been going well, despite a few inevitable adjustments after the challenging few weeks we’ve had. It’s been a real pleasure to see the level of commitment and focus from each pupil as they prepare their repertoire.
Session times:
Friday: 14:45 – 17:15 & Sunday: 10:30 – 17:15
Just a reminder that, as always, the Monday after our Specialist Weekend (10th March) will have early closing at 7pm.
The Aberdeen City Music Service is hosting its spring term concerts at the Beach Ballroom next week, and our Vocal Ensemble has been invited to perform. We’ll be rehearsing at the venue on on Monday evening, with the performance on Wednesday night. The group will present some of our own repertoire as well as take part in a massed item with the wider Music Service.
Fountainhall at the Cross Concert
Huge congratulations to our harpist, Heather and three singers Chloe, Annorah, and Olivia who performed yesterday at Fountainhall Church at the Cross as part of the Spring Sing concert. They presented a beautiful mix of solo and ensemble traditional repertoire—well done to all!
Piano Masterclass
Our ACMS pianists had an inspiring day at the Cowdray Hall, working with Nigel Clayton and Imma Setiadi. The day included a pre-concert talk, a lunchtime recital, and a masterclass, where two of our pianists performed alongside students from other music schools. It was wonderful to receive such positive feedback on how well our pupils presented themselves. A huge thank you to our staff for making the trip possible and to Nigel and Imma for delivering such an engaging and valuable session.
String Trio Concert
Last Thursday, a group of our string players attended a concert at Cowdray Hall to hear the Cargill Trio perform Mendelssohn’s Piano Trio No. 2 in C minor and Lili Boulanger’s D’un matin de printemps. A special treat for ACMS was seeing two of our own tutors—Ms Crockett and Ms MacDonald—on stage as part of the trio! Pupils returned to school buzzing with excitement about how inspiring the performance was.
Guitar Come and Play Day
Final Come and Play Session of the Year!
A huge well done to everyone who took part in Wednesday’s Guitar Come and Play session! It was brilliant to see our ACMS guitarists mentoring and coaching younger guests, sharing their skills and enthusiasm.
The short concert at the end of the evening was a real highlight—congratulations to all the performers! A special thank you to Mr Stewart for planning and leading such a fantastic session.
Inverness Music Festival
Best of luck to all our pupils taking part in the Inverness Music Festival this week—some have already performed, while others are preparing for their upcoming slots. It’s fantastic to see so many of our pupils actively seeking out external performance and competition opportunities.
North East Burns Federation Festival
A massive well done to our our harpist Heather, and one of our bursary pupils, Emma who competed in the North East Burns Federation Festival last weekend in Portlethen. It was wonderful to receive such glowing feedback—not just from ACMS staff but also from external audience members.

Aberdeen Chamber Music Concerts
We had originally scheduled a masterclass with pianist Nikita Lukinov last November, but unfortunately, he was unwell and unable to attend. While we haven’t been able to reschedule, Joan McDonald (who runs Aberdeen Chamber Music Concerts) has kindly invited ACMS pupils to attend his upcoming recital free of charge.
Concert details:
📅 Monday 31st March
📍 Fountainhall at the Cross Church
🎵 Programme: Brahms (Three of Six Pieces, Op. 118), Debussy (Images, Book 1), Tchaikovsky (Three of Eighteen Pieces, Op. 72), and Mussorgsky (Pictures at an Exhibition).
This promises to be a stunning concert, so if you’re free, do pop along!
That’s all for now - wishing you all a great weekend, and looking forward to another week of fantastic music-making!
