Dear all,
It’s been a non-teaching week here at ACMS, so this newsletter is short but sweet. Here's a little round-up of the fabulous things happening in our wider community.
Activities Week
We’ve had glowing reports from pupils about this year’s Activities Week at Dyce Academy! From local excursions in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire to trips further afield down south, the variety has been fantastic. Pupils have also taken part in creative sessions at school, including short film-making, cooking, and nature-based adventures.
It’s been lovely to hear how much fun everyone’s been having, and a huge thank you to all the Dyce Academy staff who worked so hard to make this week such a success.
Balmedie House Concert
A big congratulations to Chloe, Douglas, and Taylor, who took on their very first external concert...and organised the whole thing themselves!
The group was invited to perform at Balmedie House, a care home where a member of Chloe’s family works, with a VE Day theme in mind. They put together a wonderful programme of music from the 1940s and 50s, alongside some traditional tunes, and gave an exciting performance that was very warmly received by the residents and guests.
Programming and managing a concert is no small feat, so hats off to all three for pulling off such a successful and thoughtful event.
SQA Exams
A big well done to all our pupils who are currently in the midst of their SQA exams. We’ve heard reports of a confident response to the English paper on Tuesday, and there is a good feeling in the camp for the History paper today.
Next week looks to be particularly busy for our S4s, so we’ll be keeping everything crossed for you. Keep going - In the young people's parlance: "You got this!!"
The Dance School of Scotland
We’re thrilled to share some brilliant news: Eva has successfully auditioned for The Dance School of Scotland at Knightswood Secondary School in Glasgow - another of Scotland’s national Centres of Excellence.
Eva was a full-time ACMS pupil from S1 to S3, balancing a packed schedule of violin study, academic work, and intensive dance training. Last year, she made the decision to step back from ACMS to focus more fully on her dancing, though she’s continued to be involved in some of our concerts and trips.
We’re delighted that Eva will now continue her training at this prestigious institution, and we wish her all the best as she embarks on this exciting new chapter.
Wishing everyone a relaxing weekend — especially those revising!
