Dear All,
Thank you for another wonderful week of music-making! Here's a look at what's coming up next week, and we've been up to this week. Have a lovely weekend. KK
Our first ACMS Open Morning of the current era takes place this Sunday from 10:00 am. Some pupils have been asked to arrive early to help with either performing for visitors or guiding tours of the ACMS facilities.
• Parents and guests will arrive from 9:45 am.
• At 10:00 am, I’ll give a short talk alongside Katie Arthur, explaining how ACMS and Dyce Academy operate and integrate. This session will also include performances from our pupils.
• Around 10:45 am, ACMS pupils will lead a short tour of our facilities, finishing in the Boarding House, where we’ll enjoy some coffee and another short performance.
• By 11:30 am, the Open Morning will conclude, and rehearsals will resume.
If you know anyone who might be interested, please encourage them to come along. Further details and registration can be found HERE.
Specialist Weekend
Session 1
Our specialist weekend kicks off today at 2:45 pm and runs until 5:15 pm. We’ll be using this session to work on the tutti repertoire for the March concert and to prepare for our Open Morning on Sunday.
Holocaust Memorial Day Ceremony Performance
Congratulations to Petra on her profoundly moving piano performance at the Scottish Holocaust Memorial Day ceremony, held at the Scottish Parliament. A poignant tribute, reminding us all to reflect and remember. Here she is with Scotland’s First Minister and Miss Arthur. Well done, Petra!
Thank you also to Mr Maunder. His Music History classes this week focused on composers and artists whose work was directly influenced by the Holocaust.
Estimates (Academic Exams)
A huge thank you to all our pupils for their diligence in managing exam clashes with rehearsals and lessons well in advance—this makes life much easier for everyone! Thanks also to the ACMS staff and tutors for their flexibility during this busy period. I hope this exam session has been productive for our pupils, equipping them with valuable experience for the May exams.
March Concert Tickets
Don’t forget to book your tickets for our March concert through the Music Hall website. Book now to avoid disappointment.
Parents’ Forum
Don’t forget our hybrid Parents’ Forum is on Tuesday at 6:30 pm. Looking forward to seeing you there!
Technical Assessment
Good luck to our S4 - S6 pupils who will be taking their technical assessments this week. This is a wonderful opportunity for our pupils to get away from their repertoire work and show off their technical development and practice techniques.
Scottish Young Musicians Competition
The competition timings for the junior section (S1 to S3) of the Scottish Young Musicians Competition have now been sent out. The heats will take place in the week commencing 10th February. Good luck to all our participants!
As I write this, information regarding the senior results is apparently coming through to individuals - well done to everyone on all their efforts, and congratulations to those who have got through to the finals in March.
Burns Performance
Good luck to Kai, Taylor, Chloe, and Olivia who will be performing tonight at the Aberdeenshire Cricket Club for the Caithness, Orkney & Shetland Association of Aberdeen's Burns Supper. This event was postoned last week but has been rescheduled for this evening.
Working with Other Musical Groups
We love collaborating with other local ensembles, and we’d like to wish Aberdeen City Orchestra the very best for their upcoming performance of Strauss’ Four Last Songs and Berlioz’s Symphonie Fantastique. Look carefully and you might notice the ACMS contra bassoon and bass drum!
Specialist Weekend
Session 2
Sunday’s session runs from 10:30 am to 5:15 pm, focusing on the March concert repertoire. Please note that this weekend’s schedule has been slightly adjusted to accommodate the Open Morning and the Evensong service.
St Andrews Concert
Best of luck to Kai, Thomas, Petra, and Katya, who will be performing at the St Andrews Recital at Noon series tomorrow (Sat 1st Feb). Friends and family are warmly invited to attend—admission is free!
Evensong
Later on Sunday afternoon, some of our vocalists will leave to rehearse and sing at the Evensong service at St Andrew’s Cathedral Church. The service begins at 6:30 pm, lasts about an hour, and family and friends are very welcome to attend.
