It’s been another busy week here at ACMS! The sound of our pupils practising and rehearsing for the March concert with such focus has been exciting. We’ve also enjoyed some fantastic internal performances here at ACMS and Dyce Academy, as well as rehearsals and a concert with Aberdeen City Music Service.
Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Thanks,
KK
Dyce Academy welcomed current P7 pupils who will be joining S1 in August. It was a fantastic event, with departments across the school opening their doors to give pupils a taste of their future learning. ACMS took the opportunity to run an open rehearsal in preparation for our March concert, allowing visiting pupils and parents to watch us perform and rehearse in a variety of styles. Congratulations to all our pupils for their focus and concentration in an unusual setting—it was a lot of fun, and it was great to share our music with an audience who might not usually attend ACMS concerts.
Specialist Weekend
A huge well done to all our pupils for their hard work over the Specialist Weekend! We started running long sections of the show and completed a full run-through of the entire March concert programme on Sunday afternoon. A big thank you to all the staff who made the weekend possible. As the countdown to the concert continues, the excitement is building!
Beach Ballroom Performance
It’s always a pleasure to perform at the Beach Ballroom as guests of the Aberdeen City Music Service. This time, our vocal ensemble, accompanied by Petra and Lewis, took to the stage. On Monday, we rehearsed our pieces and joined the rest of the Music Service for a massed rehearsal of the sea shanty Wellerman. Our musicians proudly performed Ola Gjeilo’s ‘Tundra’ and Anders Edenroth’s ‘Chilli Con Carne’ at Wednesday night’s concert. Well done to all involved!
Zumba Experience
A huge thank you to Alexa Reilly, daughter of Shona from our Boarding team, for leading a fantastic Zumba session for our boarders! It was great to hear such positive feedback from those who took part—it sounds like they had a lot of fun!
Boarders’ Cooking Competition
Congratulations to the winners of the Boarders’ Cooking Competition—Gideon, Taylor, and Freyja’s team, who wowed the judges with their reportedly stunning carbonara. Each team had a budget of £7 to create a dish of their choice, and the competition was fierce!
St Andrew’s Recital
It was a pleasure to hear one of our tutors, Lucy Webster, perform a bassoon recital at St Andrew’s Cathedral on Saturday as part of their Recital at Noon series. She was ably accompanied by Aden Mazur, and together they delivered a wonderful performance of an exciting programme. Congratulations, Lucy!
Aberdeen Music Festival
A little reminder that the closing date for Aberdeen Music Festival entries is 28th March. If you’re planning to take part, make sure you get your entry submitted in good time!
Associates and Bursary Pupils
It’s been another busy week meeting potential bursary and associate pupils and their families. Following the success of our Open Morning earlier this term, we’ve been welcoming prospective pupils on an almost daily basis. It’s exciting to see so much interest in ACMS, and we really appreciate families taking the time to visit us and learn more about what we do.
CD Donations
We’re very grateful for a large donation of CDs and musicology books. Mrs Smith is currently sorting through them to expand our collection. Thank you to our generous donor!
