Dear All,
I don’t think I’ve ever started a newsletter by saying, “It hasn’t been a busy week”—but this time, it really hasn’t! That being said, we’ve still had a few events going on, even in this much quieter spell.
With Monday to Wednesday being school holidays at Dyce Academy, this has been a closed, non-teaching week for ACMS. This has given pupils a rare opportunity to take a step back, create a little space around their daily practice routines, and refocus for the busy few weeks ahead.
By Thursday and Friday, it was lovely to welcome our pupils back. It’s been a real pleasure hearing them in their scheduled practice sessions, taking time to focus on different styles of practice - scales, drills, and technical development—without the pressure of an immediate concert on the horizon.
🎶🎷 Live Jazz at His Majesty’s Theatre! 🎷🎶
A huge congratulations to our four fantastic jazz musicians for their brilliant performance on Monday night at the Aberdeen Performing Arts charity dinner, supported by True North Advisors.
Our quartet performed selections from the ACMS Jazz Standards Compilation Book, providing a wonderful musical backdrop to the event. Well done to all involved!
Great tunes, great solos, great fun! 👏🎵✨
Adam’s Band – WyldKat
🏆 Huge congratulations to ACMS drummer, Adam! 🥁🎉 Adam’s band, WyldKat, were one of four finalists in the Grampian Pride Battle of the Bands at Krakatoa, Aberdeen— and we’re absolutely over the moon that they won the whole competition on Friday! 🌟🎶
Their victory means WyldKat will now headline Grampian Pride 2025 on 7th June— an incredible achievement! 🏳️🌈🔥 Well done, Adam and WyldKat— we can’t wait to see you announce yourselves on 7th June! 🎸🎤✨
Italian Song Concert
We are very much looking forward to our Italian Song Concert on Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm in the MPA. Having performed publicly in both English and French, our singers are now turning their attention to Italian! It promises to be a fantastic evening of music—see you there.
Blue Lamp
Some pupils from ACMS will be back at the Blue Lamp on the 23rd of February providing a 40-minute set for a Childline Fundraiser. Please see the poster attached. All guests are welcome.
Practice
Quieter weeks can be the perfect time to really focus on technical development—areas that sometimes get overlooked when we’re in the midst of concerts and events. Over the past couple of days, it has been wonderful to hear our pupils taking this opportunity to fine-tune their playing during daytime practice sessions.
Scottish Young Musicians
A big well done to all our S1 to S3 pupils who took part in the Scottish Young Musicians Junior Competition heats last Tuesday at Muirfield School. It was a fantastic opportunity to perform in a competition setting and to engage with the wider musical community of Aberdeen.
A special thank you to Mrs Kyle for accompanying our pupils and, of course, to the Aberdeen City Music Service for organising and running the competition.
Boarders’ Outing
A huge thank you to the boarding team for organising a cinema trip last night. I hear the films were excellent, the snacks were plentiful, and everyone had a great time!
March Concert Tickets
Don’t forget to book your tickets for our March concert through the Music Hall website. Book now to avoid disappointment.
Thank you all for a lovely couple of days. We look forward to welcoming everyone back for full ACMS activities on Monday.
Have a great weekend!
