Owing to an extremely challenging ten days, there was no edition of Shout last Friday. I’m delighted to say that we’re back this week with a round-up of everything that’s happened over the past fortnight.
A Challenging Week
It has been a testing ten days, but we are now mostly back to our normal schedule, with some necessary adjustments. I’d like to take this opportunity to express our immense gratitude to the many people who worked around the clock to get the school up and running again so quickly. The emails, calls of support, and offers of help have been truly heartwarming - thank you!
Italian Language Concert
Huge congratulations to our pupils who took part in the Italian Language Concert last Tuesday.
The audience was treated to songs and operatic arias spanning 400 years, all beautifully prepared and performed with confidence. Special thanks to Dr Milne for her expert coaching and to Mrs Kyle for her wonderful accompaniment.
Electric Piano Donation
We are extremely grateful for the donation of an electric piano to the Boarding House. This will be placed in the main boarding area and now allows our pupils to accompany bagpipes in any key - and any instrument at any pitch! A game-changer!
CD Donation
The ACMS library boasts an impressive collection of CDs, particularly of rare recordings and unusual instrument combinations. Many have been purchased specifically for ACMS over the years, while others have been generously donated, including limited-edition releases.
We are very grateful for a recent donation of specialist CDs, which Mrs Smith is currently curating—thank you!
What a fantastic evening we had yesterday at our Percussion Come and Play Day!
Young percussionists from across the city and shire joined us to rehearse with our own percussionists, learn about ACMS, and work together on two pieces, which they performed to an enchanted audience at the end of the evening.
Huge thanks to all our percussionists for making our guests feel so welcome, and to Adam - ably assisted by Gideon - for designing, preparing, and running the workshop so brilliantly.
A huge thank you to Carrie Scott for organising the Blue Lamp Childline Charity Concert on Sunday afternoon. It was a pleasure to be invited to perform, and we were looked after beautifully. Carrie emailed the next day to say that the concert had raised an impressive £825.26 from ticket sales—fantastic news!
Congratulations to our 18 pupils who delivered a dynamic 45-minute jazz set. Carrie first met us when ACMS performed a short set for JOASA (Jazz on a Sunday Afternoon) back in October, and we hope to collaborate again for this wonderful cause in the future.
We have an exciting week ahead!
Monday: We run our March concert repertoire.
Wednesday: Guitars Come and Play Day.
Thursday: A group of pupils will attend a piano recital and masterclass at the Cowdray Hall with Nigel Clayton and Imma Setiadi. The same day, our harpists and vocalists will perform at Fountainhall at the Cross.
Friday & Sunday: Specialist Weekend!
Plenty to look forward to—watch this space!
