Characteristics: Small clusters of burgundy flowers that change to feathery seed pods in the fall.

Habitat and Origin: Found on sunny hillsides, meadows, ditches. In Prairies, Foothills, Rocky Mountains.

Optimal Growing Conditions: Thrive in sun and dry to well-drained soil conditions. Can be exposed to conditions.

Aboriginal Peoples Uses: Boiled root extract can be used for eyewash. Can be boiled down to form a gel, which is used as an ointment on cuts and sores. Seeds can be boiled to make tea to be gurgled for sore throats. Seed pods can also be crushed and used as a perfume
