Habitat and Origin: Native to all over North America
Characteristics: A perennial herb with course hairy leaves and stems and large yellow terminal flowers.
Edible Portion: Seeds.
Optimal Growing Conditions:
Aboriginal Peoples Uses: Yellow dye was obtained from the flowers and black dye from the seeds and was used for weaving. The seeds were ground and used for flour and the oil from the plant was used for cooking.
