Habitat and Origin: Native to North America and can be found from Labrador to Alaska.
Characteristics: Deciduous, biennial shrub with slightly arching stems. Young stems have prickles while older stems are smooth and purple-brown. Has small white to pale pink, bisexual flowers.
Edible Portion: Rounded, red, aggregate of drupelets.
Optimal Growing Conditions: Typically inhabits open and disturbed areas.
Aboriginal Peoples Uses: Berries typically eaten raw.
