Walled Lake Consolidated Schools
2017-18 Pay to Participate Program Guidelines and Contract
(Complete, sign, and return this form to student’s home school if he/she is participating in athletics.)
The interscholastic athletic programs offered by the Walled Lake Consolidated Schools are voluntary programs offering activities outside our students’ academic school day. The Walled Lake Athletic Department is proud to offer students a large variety of extra-curricular athletic activities that afford Walled Lake students the privilege of participation in competitive interscholastic sports.
The Walled Lake Board of Education requires that all student athletes provide a portion of the funding that is necessary to offset the cost of operating our Athletic programs as defined below.
Pay to Participate Program Guidelines: Student athletes will not be permitted to participate in athletics unless this form is completed and the Pay to Participate fee has been paid prior to the first athletic competition. If the Pay to Participate fee is not paid in
full by the first competition the athlete will not be permitted to practice and/or participate in athletic competitions until the fee is paid. Pay to Participate monies are only applicable during the current school year and do not carry-over. The fee does not guarantee playing time, control over any conditions of the team or the athletic department. The payment of this fee does not in any way alter the Walled Lake Consolidated Schools Board of Education Student Policies, the District Student Athlete Code, individual team rules, and/or the Michigan High School Athletic Association Regulations. Students participating in self-funded sports (bowling, equestrian, figure skating, ice-hockey, in-line hockey, lacrosse, poms-JV only, and water polo) are exempt from the fee.
High School Pay to Participate Fee: $425 per high school athlete ($850 maximum per family at the high school level only)
Middle School Pay to Participate Fee: $200 per middle school athlete ($400 maximum per family at the middle school level only)
Refund Policy: No refunds will be granted for voluntary withdraws; lack of playing time, disciplinary suspensions; or contests cancelled due to weather. Should a student athlete suffer a season ending injury prior to the mid-point of the season, which precludes him/her from participating in one-half of the regularly scheduled contests or is not selected as a member of the team a request, accompanied by a medical authorization letter in case of injury, may be submitted. Request for refunds are to be made to the building athletic coordinator and/or assistant principal in charge of athletics before the mid-point of the season.
Payment: Pay to Participate athletic fees may be made online through Family/Student Access and are part of our schools student registration fee process. Checks are acceptable and are to be made payable to ‘Walled Lake Consolidated Schools.” Payment and this form are to be submitted to students’ home school office by the first athletic contest. Payment and/or forms are not accepted at the district office.
Financial Assistance: Pay to Participate financial assistance applications are available in our schools front offices and online at http://wlcsd.org/athletics/pay-to-participate/ . Specific criteria must be met and documentation must be received by the district athletic department in order to qualify for 50% financial assistance.
