Dear Basketball Player:
Thank you for participating in the 2016 – 2017, Clifford Smart boys basketball tryouts. As you know, only 15-18 boys were selected out those who tried out. Unfortunately, you have not been selected as a member of this year’s team. I appreciate your hard work and dedication during tryouts. I encourage you to keep working and to tryout again next year at Clifford Smart Middle School. It is not uncommon for players who did not make the team one year to keep working on their skills and make the team the following year. There are many ways to improve your skills such as playing in the other organized leagues or by attending one of the many basketball camps that are offered in our area.
One of my most difficult responsibilities of being a coach is making decisions about who will make the team. We take this responsibility very seriously. As a person who has been cut from a team before, I know how you are feeling at this moment. Please talk to your parents about times in their lives when they have worked hard for something that did not end up going the way they hoped. Sooner or later this happens to everyone. I want remind you that there will be boys playing high school basketball this year that received the same letter that you received today. Keep working on your game and good luck next year.
Sincerely,
Coach Ristau
