Instructions:

This term we have been looking at the environment, what pollution is and how to stop it. We have also looked at NZ natives and how to protect them from pests and predators.

We are going to finish off the term looking at how we can recycle and why it is important to do so. You will have a few small readings and activities to complete. This week we will also be checking our blogs for the school holidays to make sure they are all up to date and looking amazing!

This week we will be looking at pests and predators and what they are doing to our environment and what we can do to stop them and help out our native trees and birds.

You will need to:

1. Read "Sarah's Possum" and "Possum Facts" by Jill Friar

2. Complete the activity under this reading

3. Read "Giant Snails" by Jill MacGregor

4. Complete the activity under this reading

5. Read the article about pests in New Zealand

6. Complete the activity under this reading

Once each of the activities have been completed you will need to show Miss Parrant and then publish these to your blogs. Remember to read the reading first and then complete the activity underneath before moving on to the next reading.

This week we will be moving our focus to New Zealand native birds that we find in our environment. We will discuss why some of these birds might be endangered and why it is important to make sure we look after our environment to protect these birds.

You will need to complete each of the readings and the follow up activities associated with the readings. Each of these will need to then be published on your blog and the link to the blog and your document in the blog log.

This week we will be moving our focus to New Zealand native tress that we find in our environment. We will discuss why trees are important to our environment and how we can help in making sure they are preserved and looked after

Firstly you will need to look at the reading about the Kowhai tree, this reading will tell you all about this native tree and where it can be found in New Zealand. You will then need to complete the follow up activity related to this reading.

You will then need to create a presentation about this native tree and also choose another tree from the Department of conservation website. This presentation will include all of the important facts that you have found about about the Kowhai tree and the other one you have selected.

Your second reading for this week is "Trees for the birds" which you will also need to read and then complete the follow up activity.

This week we will be looking at plastic bags and what damage they can do to our environment. This week we will also be able to look at the ways in which we can minimise pollution in our area/school.

Over the past couple of weeks we have seen that pollution causes many problems nationally and internationally now we can look at what we can do to help.

This week we will be looking at pollution again but in a local perspective. We will be reading a discussing some key disasters in New Zealand that have lead to the pollution of our oceans.

You will need to complete the readings and then the activities linked to those readings. The main reading this week is 'What a Disaster!" you will need to complete this and the activities associated with this text first before you can move on to the other tasks.

This term for our enquiry we are going to be looking at the environment so your readings will reflect this. You will need to read all three of the readings. As you complete your readings if there are any words that you don't know the meaning of or have never seen before place them in a document and we will discuss them when we meet for our reading groups!

After each reading you complete you will need to place the key points into your brainstorm document. Remember finding the keys points and putting them in your own words not copy and paste.

Once you have completed the readings you will need to then complete the presentation about the world wide pollution and what it looks like.
