Happenings
Forbidden Fruit (Sunless Citadel) 12/12/21 - 1/13/22: The players are task with bringing an end to the rule of King Opir Eight-fingers of Jol. A mysterious benefactor tells them of a fruit that is keeping the King alive. They journey to the Sunless Citadel to stop this magical fruit from being created. They slaughter some goblins, free a young Linnorm, and defeat the Winter Witch of Irrisen that is growing the fruit.
Forge of Fury: Returning to Jol, they discover an ice obelisk has appeared in the capitol and a brutal winter has descended on the land. From the faeries in the forest (who are going to die if this cold continues), they learn that Gavin - Gullie's mentor - was researching what was going on and was headed for White Rook on the Irrisen border. They detour to the Forge of Fury where Lorogal can find a magical sword to help control his Lycanthorpy.
White Rook: In White Rook they see the devasatation wrought by the Winter Witch's ice obelisks. The city has lost half it's population to starvation and the cold. They defeat the Ulfen overlord and the White Witch oppressing the people and destroy the ice obelisk. The innkeep passes Gullie a note from Gavin - it seems his investigation has lead him into Irrisen, land of the Winter Witches. Wicket can follow the ley lines of the ice obelisk and this is headed in the same direction as Gavin went.
Brinewall Castle: As the cross the Irrisen border, the PCs are hit by brutal cold that it is hard to recover from. This will vex Wickett for many days to come. They come across an old castle where a group of Reghed barbarians (Tel's people) have aligned with the Winter Witches to survive the hard conditions. Poseing as a Winter Witch, they learn that Queen Elvana, with the help of a demi-god known as the Frost Maiden, have captured Baba Yaga and are responsible for the ice obelisks and the winter conditions taking over the Thanelands. They destory another obelisk and acquire a black ice shard, put this is only a temporary solution as the obelisks start to grow.
Caer Dunval: Continuing to follow the ley lines, they reach the city of Caer Dunval. There a wizard, Radsovek, is being frozen to death at a stake. They rescue him and learn that he is an ally of Gavin and that the both of them are agents of Baba Yaga working to free here. Radsovek tells them that Gavin has continued on to something called White Plume Crevasse to acquire Baba Yaga magical items. He was searching for the home of the Frost Maiden on the nearby lake when he was captured. They defeat the Winter Witch in the castle here and then have a long discussion on what to do next. Tel has had enough of looking for Gavin and convinces the party to go to the Frost Maiden's keep and defeat her.
Grimskalle: Using a Frost Druid amulet the party manages to sail to Grimskalle Castle to face the frost maiden. The frost maiden's first form nearly kills the party. The explore the rest of the castle, passing 4 tests of the Frost Maiden to gain some treasure, and then try to face her again. Again, they are all nearly killed. They decide they are not strong enough to face the Frost Maiden and so head for White Plume.
White Plume Journey: On the journey to White Plume, they are attacked by the Frost Maiden riding her roc. Wicket turns the roc into a whale while the rest of the party beats on the Frost Maiden. In the end, the Frost Maiden is drive off but the roc is killed. With the roc dead, the Frost Maiden had no way to renew her ice weather magic on Irrisen. The party, Wicket especially, rejoices when they wake to warm sunshine the next day.
White Plume Crevasse, 7/24/22 - 8/24/22: A sphinx guardian tells the party that Gavin was in fact here, but that he was captured by frost giants and taken to something called the Doomvault - a Baba Yaga research pocket dimension. Having no idea where that might be, they brave White Plume. Since they are not officially agents of Baba Yaga, the denizens of the dungeon try to kill them. The invisible Twig manages to grab a bone rattle from a oni, they defeat a giant crab to gain a lock of gray hair, and ---- that's where we left things before Jenna went to Korea.
White Plum Crevasse, 9/24/22: Exiting the Crevasse, they discover Baba Yaga's hut waiting for them since Wickett played the bone rattle. With some experimentation, they throw the lock of hair in the cauldron which causes the hut to rise up and race to the North. With dizzying speed, it eventually arrives at a circle of black ice obelisks. With the help of the hut, they defeat some frost giants guarding the place. Using the black ice shards that remained after destroying the other ice obelisks across Irrisen, the discover that each of the obelisks is a portal. They bravely step through.
Doom Vault: Through the portal they discover themselves in a strange pocket dimension. They battle numerous monsters, winter witchs, guards, and anything else the Doom Vault can throw at them. They encounter a baffling collection of portals (Black, Blue, White, and Red) as well as baffling collection of ice shards (Black, White, Red). There is some experimentation but mostly they battle their way through the Doom Vault murder-hoboing everything the come across. They go through the Blood Pens, Master's Domain, and Far Realm Cysts. They manage to exit out to the black obelisks to rest in Baba Yaga's hut.
Doom Vault 12/9/22: The party decides to use a different black key to access a different area of the Doom Vault. They have a massive running battle with many winter witches in the Ooze Grottos. They journey through the Forests of Slaughter before returning to the Ooze Grotto and then into the Predator Pools where another masssive battle takes place against the survivors of the Ooze Grotto. They meet a sea hag that is rather pissed that Queen Elvania did not see fit to make her the ruler of this pocket. If the PCs will go kill the leader of the Predator Pools, a naga, she promises to tell them what they need to know about the Doom Vault.
