Action Points

Each time you gain a level you receive 1 action point. The GM may award extra action points.

You can spend action points as a free action to do the following:

1) Cheat death. Any time a PC dies, he can expend FIVE Action Points to cheat death. The PC is stabilized at -9. A PC that has cheated death must be restored to FULL hit points before they become conscious. Where possible, cheating death will leave you in a “safe” place (If you’ve been swallowed whole, you’ll be barfed back out. On-going spell effects would end. Enemies will leave you for dead rather than stab you again.) If something happens to again kill you, you would have to expend Action Points again (the dragon breaths again on your companions when you’re still in the area). A PC that cheats death also loses 500 XP * their current level but suffers no other penalties.

2) You can spend one Action Point to stabilize yourself.

3) An Action Point can be used to re-roll any roll.

Considering that Action Points are the only way to bring a character back from the dead, you should not piss them away.
