Firefly Setting
Just some specific stuff to this Firefly campaign, mostly pulled from fandom Wiki
People and Things
Trade Alliance: Registered, alliance approved traders. You ain't one of these.
Governor: The alliance appointed ruler of a planet or moon. They might not be the actual power though, especially on the rim.
Core / White Sun System: Center of the galaxy, home of the Alliance. Futuristic, high tech, wealthy and no place a browncoat wants to be for very long.
Border Planets (Georgia and Red Sun System): Still pretty solidly under Alliance control but a place where the adventurous, more independent, or less legal type of person frequently ends up.
Rim (Kalidasa and Blue Sun systems): Planets way out there. Alliance controlled mostly in name only. Recently terraformed planets, low on tech and wealth, with folks striving to get by, but it's a home to anyone who chages under Alliance rule.
Communication
"Radio": For on-planet communication and ship to ship. Ubiqutous at the core & border, might be limited on rim planets.
Waves: Audio-visual long range communication. Instant communication within system, only slight delay between core and border planets. Waves can be a bit spotty on the rim planets with messages taking about 2 days to arrive if available at all. Waves are not available when traveling the black, only in system.
Cortex: A repository of all worldly knowledge, news, and entertainment. Updated and current for the Core and Border. The Rim planets get Cortex-lite - a version without much current news and a might less in-depth on everything else.
