Shutter Priority Photo #4

Photograph #4 - Panning

1. Set shutter for a slow shutter 1/8 -1/15 by rotating the selector dial. Look for the shutter speed on the lower left of your viewing screen.

2. Choose a subject to do a panning shot. The subject should be moving across the view not towards the camera.

3. Check the exposure by holding the shutter button halfway and look at the screen

You can adjust the exposure 2 ways (see NOTES on last page):

    1. Press the exposure compensation button then rotate the selector dial
    2. Adjust the ISO by pressing the selector dial under the ISO and then rotate the dial to the desired number

4. PANNING:

    1. Hold the camera steady with elbows in by your sides. Rotate your body as your subject moves. Practice rotating before you take the shot.
    2. When ready tell subject to move and press the shutter just before they are in the ideal spot and then press down on the shutter button. Continue following until the exposure ends.
    3. Evaluate your photo. If everything is blurry you moved up and down as well as rotating. Hold camera steadier and rotate horizontally only. You also may have moved faster or slower than your subject. This takes practice so keep trying. You also may not have compensated for shutter lag. Press the shutter before the subject hits the ideal spot to start exposure.
