Don't spoil anything, but let your reader know what they are getting into if they read the book. Here are some elements worth mentioning, in no particular order:
Narration - how the story was told
Plot - again, just the basics
Setting - where it takes place
Characters - just the major ones!
Theme(s) - the message(s) of the book
Author - other notable books?
Genre - the type of book - nonfiction, mystery, historical fiction?
#3 - Evaluation
(Generally 1-5 paragraphs)
Give your opinion on the book. This is the IMPORTANT part, and the reason someone will read your review. Here are some prompts to get you going:
- Did you like it? Why?
- Dislike it? Why?
- Specifically, what elements did you like and/or dislike?
- Is the writing of high quality? Explain.
- Was the dialogue believable?
- Were the characters relatable?
- Did the plot keep you engaged?
- Is this an important book for others to read? If so, who?
- Would you read more by this author?
- Would you encourage others to read this book? Why or why not?
Don't forget a conclusion! Perhaps pick one of the prompts above to help you focus your conclusion.
