Humanities at Southern Hills is an integrated class combining 8th grade social studies and language arts. In Humanities, students will engage in a wide variety of authentic projects and activities that focus on students learning the critical skills of reading, writing, speaking, research, and collaboration.
As a result of this year in Humanities, students will be better equipped to solve problems, communicate, and participate in our democratic society as responsible and thoughtful citizens.
The class will be organized through two thematic units that ask students to explore American history (early America - 1890s), while writing in a variety of styles (analytical, poetic, narrative, etc.) and reading novels, short stories, and shorter, nonfiction pieces.
