How are rivers used by people? Research different ways that rivers are used by people. Present findings in a mind map.
Locate rivers in the UK Use maps and atlases to locate major rivers in the UK and the seas they flow into.
Track a river from its source to its mouth. Use maps, atlases and information from a field study of the River Darent to track the River Darent from its source to its mouth. Explain geographical features of the river using correct terminology.
How do rivers change shape? Use and explain the terms erosion, transportation and deposition. Understand these processes from their first hand experience of the River Darent. Explain data taken from a field study and how this shows how rivers change shape.
What are the effects of pollution on rivers? Investigate different types of pollution including man made and natural pollution including flooding, pollution from farming, rubbish, factories and sewage. Find ways we can protect our rivers. Use IT to present findings.
