In terms 3 and 4 we will be building on the skills the children have already developed and supporting them to:

Recognise that people have different beliefs and celebrate different times in different ways.
Our RE learning will support children’s knowledge of people, culture and communities. Our RE focus for term 3 will be New Testament Stories – ‘Which stories are special and why?’ and in term 4, Salvation – ‘Why do Christians put a cross in an Easter garden?’. Through our adult directed learning in RE children learn to understand that some places are special to members of their community. They will begin to recognise that people have different beliefs and celebrate different times in different ways.

Understand the effect of changing seasons on the natural world around them.
Recognise some environments that are different to the one in which they live.
Through our topic of ‘Space’ the children will learn to understand the effect of changing seasons on the natural world around them and recognise some environments that are different to the one in which they live. Learning about the seasons continues throughout the school year but our topic 'Space' will enhance this learning further. Within our child initiated time children will learn to describe what they see, hear and feel whilst outside, through adult support and interaction.

Compare and contract characters from stories, including figures from the past.
Our topic for term 3 is ‘Space’. We will be learning the planets song, phases of the moon, moon landing, the order of the planets, the hottest planet, the coldest planet, Pluto is a dwarf planet and a range of vocabulary such as solar system.
Our topic for term 4 is ‘castles and knights’. Children will learn the features of a castle, facts about knights, dragons, St George, different kinds of castles and a range of vocabulary such as turret, portcullis, moat, drawbridge, tower. Children will have an enrichment day where we attend ‘knight school’.
Through our topic learning we will read books that link to our topics ‘Space’ and ‘castles and knights’ and they will learn to compare and contrast characters from stories, including figures from the past. Through learning about space and then castles children will developing their knowledge of past and present.
